乳腺癌是女性中最常见的恶性肿瘤，在全球范围内其发病率有逐渐增高的趋势。自Halsted根治术创立近100多年以来，手术一直是治疗乳腺癌的主要方法之一，是病灶仍限于局部或淋巴结者的首选治疗方法。但由于对乳腺癌生物学特性研究的深入、早期诊断水平的提高、全身治疗的发展以及社会文化背景的改变，人们对乳腺癌有了更进一步的认识，乳腺外科治疗在近20年发生了巨大的变化。
