Liu Lunxu is the Executive Vice Dean of the West China Clinical Medical School/West China Hospital, Sichuan University. He is a professor and chief physician in thoracic surgery, a doctoral supervisor, a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England (FRCS), a member of the American Association for Thoracic Surgery (AATS), and an international committee member of the European Society of Thoracic Surgeons (ESTS). He has been recognized as an outstanding young expert by the National Health Commission. He serves as the Deputy Director of the Thoracic Cardiovascular Surgery Branch of the Chinese Medical Association. He is the Chairman of the Internet Hospital Professional Committee of the Chinese Health Information and Big Data Association and the Director of the Chest Tumor Institute at West China Hospital, Sichuan University.
He was the first one to carry out thoracoscopic radical surgery of lung cancer in China, and he established the single-direction uniportal thoracoscopic pulmonary lobectomy internationally, which has been widely promoted and applied nationwide. He proposed the effective treatment method for major vascular bleeding under laparoscopy internationally-the thoracoscopic suction lateral pressure hemostasis method. He was the first to perform central lung cancer resection using double-sleeve shaping of bronchial pulmonary arteries under full thoracoscopic surgery internationally. He independently carried out bilateral lung transplantation surgery for the first time in Southwest China. He is responsible for three research projects from the National Natural Science Foundation. As the primary completer, he received one first-class prize from the Chinese Medical Science and Technology Award and one first-class prize from the Provincial and Ministerial Science and Technology Progress Award.
