  • 5E Rehabilitation Program Can Improve Psychiatric Symptoms on the Maintained Hemodialysis Patients

  • Advances in clinical rehabilitation for temporomandibular joint disorder

Temporomandibular joint disorder (TMD) is a general term for a group of diseases. Clinically, it often presents as pain in the temporomandibular joint and surrounding muscles and soft tissues, often involving the temporomandibular joint, chewing muscles, and anterior joint area. There are also abnormalities in jaw movement, function, joint sounds, crushing sounds, and murmurs. This article provides a review of the epidemiology, etiology, clinical characteristics, auxiliary examinations, rehabilitation assessment, and rehabilitation treatment of TMD, in order to improve understanding of TMD rehabilitation assessment and provide reference for clinical rehabilitation treatment of TMD.

  • New strategies in the brain rehabilitation: from extremity-orientated to brain-focused and to brain-limbs modulation

Subjects with brain diseases are the major conditions of neurorehabilitation. It has brought new hopes to those with neurologic problems with the development of researches in the brain and other neurology. Strategies in the neurorehabilitation are now changing. It has progressed from focusing the improvement of the limbs of patients such as neurodevelopment approaches, functional electrical stimulation, robotic training, and so on, to the brain-orientated such as non-invasive brain stimulation, virtue reality, etc. A new model of neurorehabilitation is now being developed which integrates the methods stimulating the brain with those stimulating the limbs together either simultaneously or combination to modulate the effectiveness of different modalities. The final goals are to further enhance the outcome of rehabilitation.

  • COMPREHENSIVE REHABILITATION IN THE TREATMENT OF FUNCTIONAL IMPAIRMENT AFTER REPLANTATION OF MULTIPLE FIN GERS INJURY

The comprehensive rehabilitative treatment was used in 58 cases(194 finger)for functional impairment after eplantation. After the treatment the overall increase of flexion-extension range of motion was 30 to 130 degrees respectively. From the assessment of 10 items of daily activities, the patients could accomplish three-fourth of them. the average time taken for the treatment was 3 months with an excellent-good rate about 87.4%. Through the early comprehensive rehabilititive treatment patients could achieve better results.

  • Therapeutic Effect of Comprehensive Rehabilitation in Patients with Peripheral Nerve Injuries after the Wenchuan Earthquake: A Report of 24 Cases

Objective To observe the effect of comprehensive rehabilitation in patients with peripheral nerve injuries after the Wenchuan earthquake. Methods A total of 24 cases of peripheral nerve injuries who were admitted to the Rehabilitation Center for Earthquake Victims of West China Hospital of Sichuan University were treated with comprehensive rehabilitation, including exercise therapy, acupuncture therapy, functional electrical stimulation, and occupational therapy (mainly sensory training and wearing orthosis). After 30 treatment sessions, patient motor and sensory function, upper limb functional activity, and electrodiagnostic parameters were evaluated. Meanwhile, concomitant injuries were also recorded. Results As for the recovery of motor and sensory functions, the effective rate was 41.66%. The difference in the scores of upper limb functional activities was statistically significant before and after treatment (Plt;0.01). As assessed by electromyogram and nerve conduction velocity, the response rate was 87.50%. Patients with more concomitant injuries were likely to have slower recovery. Conclusion Comprehensive rehabilitation is appropriate and effective for patients with peripheral nerve injuries after the Wenchuan earthquake.

  • Progress in experimental research on pulsed electromagnetic field in the treatment of knee osteoarthritis

With the acceleration of the aging in the world and our society, osteoarthritis has become a health concern for patients and health workers. At present, its treatment mainly relies on drug treatment, surgical treatment and rehabilitation. As a safe, non-invasive and simple treatment, pulsed electromagnetic field (PEMF) therapy has been used in clinical treatment of osteoporosis, promoting fracture healing and improving symptoms of osteoarthritis. However, the mechanism of PEMF in the treatment of knee osteoarthritis is still unclear. This paper reviews the effects of PEMF on apoptosis, cytokines, cartilage and subchondral bone in knee osteoarthritis in animal experiments, and the changes of chondrocyte morphology and extracellular matrix in cell experiments, aiming to enable medical workers to better understand the status and development of PEMF in the treatment of knee osteoarthritis in basic experimental researches.
