Objective To analyze the advances of cancer stem cell (CSC) in recent years, and to propose a prospect for CSC research and cancer therapy. Methods Articles about important advances of CSC theory and cancer therapy were reviewed, and then selected and summarized. Results In 2001, CSC was first put forward as a concept, till now, which has been confirmed in many tissues. In recent years, efforts were dedicated to such topics including: identification of CSC in sol id tumors, the origin of CSC, its niche and growth mechanism, cancer therapy, etc. According to the CSC theory, traditional therapeutic methods have deficiencies, and new treatment targeting CSC may thoroughly el iminate tumors. Conclusion At present, CSC theory is still controversial, while it proposed revolutionary methods and directions for the therapy of cancer.
ObjectiveTo analyze the progress in biological tissue engineering scaffold materials and the clinical application, as well as product development status. MethodsBased on extensive investigation in the status of research and application of biological tissue engineering scaffold materials, a comprehensive analysis was made. Meanwhile, a detailed analysis of research and product development was presented. ResultsConsiderable progress has been achieved in research, products transformation, clinical application, and supervision of biological scaffold for tissue engineering. New directions, new technology, and new products are constantly emerging. With the continuous progress of science and technology and continuous improvement of life sciences theory, the new direction and new focus still need to be continuously adjusted in order to meet the clinical needs. ConclusionFrom the aspect of industrial transformation feasibility, acellular scaffolds and extracellular matrix are the most promising new growth of both research and product development in this field.
Objective To review the study progress of mesenchymal stem cells induced to differentiate intervertebral disc cells Methods The recent related literature was reviewed. The theorical and experimental studies were summarized. Results MSCs had the potential of multidirectional differentiation.International experimental studies indicated the potential of MSCs induced to differentiate intervertebral disc cells. Conclusion MSCs induced to differentiate intervertebral disc cells has the fine prospect.
Objective To review the lately new progress of fish collagen as biomedical materials, and then analyze feasibility and risk management of its application as a substitute of collagen originated from mammals in clinical practice. Methods Based on extensive research on new application and investigation of fish collagen, the paper was prepared to bring comprehensive analysis of its research and application status, and then several key points were focused on. Results Fish collagen has been proved to be a novel collagen of rich source, low risk of virus transmission, low biological risk, less religious barrier, and high biocompatibility. Fish collagen has promising prospect when applied in clinical practice as novel collagen especially as a substitute of collagen derived from mammals. However, very few related translational medicine research of fish collagen has been reported up to now in China. Conclusion As a novel potential substitute of collagen source derived from mammals, fish collagen is concerned to be clinical feasible and necessary in translational medicine. However, massive applied basic researches should be focused on in the further investigations.
Esophageal cancer is one of the common malignant tumors with high incidence and poor prognosis. Angiogenesis-related pathways play an important role in the occurrence and development of esophageal cancer. Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) is the main mediator of angiogenesis. In addition to promoting angiogenesis and maintaining the survival of neovascularization, VEGF can also directly act on esophageal cancer cells and promote the occurrence and development of tumors. This article reviews the biology of VEGF and its effect on blood vessels, the expression of VEGF in esophageal cancer cells and its influencing factors, the role of VEGF in esophageal cancer cells, the immunomodulatory activity of VEGF and the clinical study of VEGF inhibitors. The purpose of this study is to provide a basis for more rational use of VEGF inhibitors in the treatment of esophageal cancer.
Object ive To summar ize recent advance in the appl icat ion and research of ar t i f icial chordae tendineae. Methods The cl inical and experimental research l iterature was extensively reviewed and analyzed. Results The follow-up results showed that artificial chordae tendineae replacement was superior to other operation methods in valve repair. But, it was compl icated and difficult-to-learn. In recent years with the development of many surgical skills and new techniques, good cl inical results were achieved. Conclusion With the development of surgical equi pment, chordae material, and implanting skills, artificial chordae tendineae implanting will be easier and the scope of appl ication will be larger.
As the most common primary malignant bone tumor in children and adolescents, osteosarcoma has the characteristics of high malignancy, easy metastasis and poor prognosis. The recurrence, metastasis and multi-drug resistance of osteosarcoma are the main problems that limit the therapeutic effect and survival rate of osteosarcoma. Among them, lung metastasis is often the main target organ for distant metastasis of osteosarcoma. In recent years, people have paid attention to the signaling pathway of the occurrence and development of osteosarcoma and made in-depth studies on its mechanism. A variety of relevant signaling pathways have been constantly clarified. At present, there is still a lack of systematic and multi-directional exploration and summary on the signaling pathway related to the pulmonary metastasis of osteosarcoma. This paper explores the new direction of targeted therapy for osteosarcoma by elucidating the relationship between the signaling pathway associated with osteosarcoma and the pulmonary metastasis of osteosarcoma.
Objective To investigate the research advances of the peripheral nerve allograft. Methods The recent articles on peripheral nerve allograft were reviewed extensively. The treatments of allograft and host were analyzed. Results The immunogenicity of allograft was relieved by the physical, chemical or biological treatments; the immunosuppressive therapy makes the rejection relieved and the regeneration of axon accelerated. Conclusion The effect of peripheral nerve allograft is inferior to autograft. If the immunologic tolerance are inducedsuccessfully, the problem shall be solved.
Knee osteoarthritis (KOA) is one of the common degenerative joint diseases, which is more common in the middle-aged and elderly population. It shows significant gender differences, with a significantly higher incidence rate in women than in men, seriously affecting the quality of life of patients. However, there are few research reports on the correlation between gender differences and the incidence of KOA both domestically and internationally. Therefore, this article will summarize and analyze the potential causes of gender differences related to the incidence of KOA from five aspects: hormone levels, anatomical biomechanical characteristics, genes, obesity, and exercise-muscle factors. Through a comprehensive review of research progress, the aim is to provide a theoretical basis for gender based personalized treatment of KOA in clinical practice.
