Using 70 SD white rats, diveded in two groups at random, after the common carotid artery wa(?) exposed, anastomosis of the artery was done by whole-layer suture and suture without including the endothelial layer, respectively. The rate of patency of both groups immediately after operation was 100 percent, where as in late stage, 94 percent and 97 percent, respectively. From the histologic exam ination, it was found that in the group of whole-layer suture, the time required to cover the sutureline with endothelium was delayed and there was rupture of the clastic fibers.
Abstract An animal experiment had been conducted for the purpose to find out the possibility of application of instantaneous sustained limited expansion (ISLE). A total of 54 skin defects in 9 pigs were obtained and were divided into two groups. One group of the pigs were subjected to instantaneous sustained limited expansion, the others, as the control group, just received the tension suture. At the same time the blood supply of the skin was measured by laser doppler flowmeter (LDF). It was showed that microcirculatory perfusion of the ISLE group was considerably better than that of the control. Inaddition, the correlation between the blood flow of the skin and the expanding pressure, as well as the pathologic changes of the skin were discussed.
Objective To analyze the advances of cancer stem cell (CSC) in recent years, and to propose a prospect for CSC research and cancer therapy. Methods Articles about important advances of CSC theory and cancer therapy were reviewed, and then selected and summarized. Results In 2001, CSC was first put forward as a concept, till now, which has been confirmed in many tissues. In recent years, efforts were dedicated to such topics including: identification of CSC in sol id tumors, the origin of CSC, its niche and growth mechanism, cancer therapy, etc. According to the CSC theory, traditional therapeutic methods have deficiencies, and new treatment targeting CSC may thoroughly el iminate tumors. Conclusion At present, CSC theory is still controversial, while it proposed revolutionary methods and directions for the therapy of cancer.
In this experiment ,the sciatic nerves or twen-ty-eight rats were cut and then anastomosed withbiological adhesive agent or by suture in randonand the latter as control. The biological adhesive a-gent from human plasma was composed of fibrino-gen coagulase and medullary sheath of the nervetaken at the anasomosis region were studied histol-gically. The results of the experimental group wsasignificantly superior to the control.
Motor endplate is the structure connected between the nerve terminal and muscle fibre and plays a very important role in conducting nerve impulses to the target, therefore, systemical study of the sequential changes of the motor end-plate upon denervation is quite important.Ninety New Zealand rabbits were divided into nine groups from two weeks to nine months after denervation. Acetycholinesterase(AchE) was analyzed quantitatively to study the sequential changes of the motorendplates of tibialis anterior muscle. The results showed that there was no significant reduction of AchE at theend if one month after denervation, whereas a sharp reduction of AchE afterwards. AchE could not be stained after five month denervation.
Objective To evaluate the application of tendency-oriented perimetry (TOP) in detecting the visual function of glaucoma. Methods The traditional threshold perimetry (Normal/Normal strategy) and TOP (TOP/Normal strategy) carried out by Octopus 101 perimetry were used to examine the visual field of 20 normal subjects (20 eyes), 32 cases (32 eyes) of primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG), and 14 cases (14 eyes) of suspected POAG, respectively. The visual field outcomes, indices, point by point threshold variability and defective points of the two perimetries were compared and analysed. Results The negative rate of TOP was 90% in normal subjects. The positive rate of TOP was 75% in POAG , and 100% in middle and late stage of POAG. The visual field indices of two perimetries were positively correlated, with mean sensitivity (MS) of r=0.9335, mean defect (MD) of r=0.9189, and loss variance (LV) of r=0.9621. The point by point threshold variability and defective points of TOP were higher than those of traditional threshold perimetry, but the difference between the two perimetries was not significant (P=0.2019, P=0.4448). Conclusion The visual field indices of TOP and traditional threshold perimetry are positively correlated. The sensitivity and reproducibility of TOP are high in detecting the visual function of middle and late stage of POAG. (Chin J Ocul Fundus,Dis, 2002, 18: 269-272)
In this experiment, two proximal ends of themedian and ulnar nerves of rabbit wereapproxirnated within the chitin tube for thepurpose to inhibit the neuroma formation. Byobservation under light and transmission electronmicrnscopo and immunohistochemistry, wefound that: (1) the axons of the two proximalstumpe could regenerate in the chitin tube for 2to 5mm, and then ceased to grow when anaxonal overlap happened resulting in inhibitingneuroma formation; (2) chitin tube could bedegradated a...
The aim of this experiment was to study the osteogenesis in vivo of allogenic osteoblast combined culture with calcium phosphate composites. The osteoblasts were obtained by enzymatic digestion of periosteum from fibula subcultured to 13 generations, the cells were combined culture with hydroxyapatite and biphasic calcium phosphate. Subseguently, the composite was implanted into rabbits subcutaneously or intramuscularly. The blank material was implanted in the contralateral side as control. Four weeks later, all animals were sacrificed. All the implants were examined by gross observation, histological examination and EDXA. The results showed: 1. obvious ingrowth of connective tissue with very little inflammatory reaction; 2. new bone formation in the composites with deposit of Ca and P on the surface of osteoblast, but none in the blank materials; 3. no significant difference of new bone formation between the different sites of implantation or different materials, but those implanted intramuscularly had lamellae form of new bone while those implanted subcutaneously had only mineralization of extracellular matrix. The conclusion were: 1. the composites are biocompatible with prior osteogenesis property; 2. periosteal-derived allogenic osteoblasts obatined by enzymatic digestion could survive following implantation with bioactivity; 3. rich blood supply might be advantageous to new bone formation and its maturation.
Purpose To evaluate differences in the pattern of optic disc and retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) damage in normal-tension glaucoma (NTG) and high-tension glaucoma (HTG) patients. Methods We enrolled 49 eyes of 49 patients:30 NTG (IOP≤21 mm Hg,1 mm Hg=0.133 kPa), 19 HTG(IOP≥25 mm Hg). Mean age was 59.2±12.3 (range, 36-75) for HTG patients, and 59.6±8.6(range, 39-71) for NTG patients. All patients underwent complete ophthalmic examination, achromatic automated perimetry (AAP), scanning laser ophthalmoscopy (SLO), scanning laser polarimetry (SLP), optical coherence tomography (OCT) and Heidelberg retinal tomography (HRT). All patients had glaucomatous optic nerve damage and abnormal AAP. Results There were no differences in mean deviation on AAP between NTG and HTG eyes (P=0.37), while the corrected pattern standard deviation was larger in NTG than in HTG eyes (P=0.014). Cup∶disc area ratios in global (P=0.03) and three sectors (Plt;0.05) except nasal sector were significantly larger in the NTG group, whereas rim area in global (P=0.03) and three sectors (Plt;0.05) except nasal quadrant obtained by SLO were smaller in NTG than in HTG eyes. The other numerical parameters obtained by three imaging technologies could not detect differences in the optic disc or RNFL anatomy between the two groups. Conclusions Cup∶disc area ratio was larger in patients with NTG than in those with HTG, whereas significant thinning of rim was associated with NTG eyes. The measurement of retinal nerve layer thickness in global and each quadrant was similar between two groups. More focal or segmental analysis of the data contained within SLO, SLP and OCT images are needed to detect localized differences in eyes with varying levels of IOP.
