  • Effect of Olfactory Ensheathing Cells Transplantation for Motor Function Restitution on Spinal Cord Injury of Rats: A Systematic Review

Objective To review evidences of the relationship between olfactory ensheathing cells (OECs) transplantation and motor functional restitution of spinal cord injury (SCI). Methods We searched the CBM, CNKI, VIP and PubMed databases for collecting relative studies published from January 1989 to December 2009. Randomized controlled experiments of treating rats SCI with OECs transplantation were included. Quality of included experiments was assessed by Jadad scale, and the available data were abstracted and meta-analyzed with RevMan 4.2 software. Results A total of 12 randomized controlled experiments were identified. Meta-analysis showed that, OECs group was higher than control group in both BBB score (WMD=1.67, 95%CI 0.99 to 2.36; WMD=3.61, 95%CI 1.97 to 5.26; WMD=6.50, 95%CI 5.76 to 7.24; WMD=4.23, 95%CI 1.19 to 7.28; WMD=1.90, 95%CI 1.22 to 2.58; WMD=3.30, 95%CI 2.63 to 3.97) and MEP latency period (WMD= – 3.98, 95%CI – 5.71 to – 2.25), but there was no statistical significance in SEP latency period or amplitude period (WMD= – 7.13, 95%CI – 16.49 to 2.23; WMD=3.00, 95%CI – 1.12 to 7.11; WMD=1.95, 95%CI – 0.89 to4.78). Conclusions This meta-analysis based on current experiments suggests that OECs transplantation is superior in motor function restitution after spinal cord injury, but is similar as control group in SEP latency or amplitude.

  • Analysis on Stray Factors of Patients in Neurological Ward and the Countermeasures of Nursing

【Abstract】 Objective To investigate the countermeasure of nursing towards patients straying from neurological ward by analyzing the associated stray factors. Methods The medical records of 8 patients that went astray from our neurological ward between January 2004 to July 2007 were retrospectively analyzed. The patients’ age, sex, educational level, clinical diagnosis, state of consciousness, and mental status were evaluated and analyzed to determine their correlation with the patients’ straying behavior. Results Patients with self-cognitive disorders, hallucination, delusion and disorientation were more likely to go astray. Male, senior age, and low education level patients were the dominant population engaging in the straying behavior, which mostly happened at night time. Conclusion Preventative nursing measures should be individualized to specific patients with special risky factors of straying in neurological ward.

  • The review and prospect of the decade of neuro-ophthalmology in China

Neuro-ophthalmology is an interdisciplinary discipline that spans multiple disciplines such as ophthalmology, neurology, and neurosurgery, and plays an important role in ophthalmology. Since the establishment of the Neuro-Ophthalmology Group in 2011, it has shown a good momentum of accelerated development of neuroophthalmology team building, promoting the process of neuroophthalmology standardization and strengthening interdisciplinary cooperation. However, there is still a gap between the level of neuro-ophthalmology in China and that in developed countries, which still cannot get rid of the stage of introduction and imitation. It is still a long way to form neuro-ophthalmology with unique characteristics in China. In the future, we should carry out clinical research while advancing basic research work, and establish a standard training system to strengthen the training of neuroophthalmologists. It is expected that in the next 10 years, China's neuro-ophthalmic diagnosis and research level will be significantly improved, and a number of landmark academic achievements will be achieved, and a number of internationally and domestically renowned neuro-ophthalmologist will be trained to further enhance the international academic status of neuro-ophthalmic research in China.

  • Development and implementation of genetic re-education project for neurologists

Objective To explore and implement a systematic, case guided online interactive training course for neurologists to improve their diagnosis and treatment of rare genetic diseases. Methods Doctors who participated in the course investigation of the neurogenetic project of the Department of Neurology of Peking Union Medical College Hospital between January and September 2021 were selected. Based on andragogy theory, a genetics training course for neurologists was developed by applying Kern’s six steps of curriculum development. According to the time of participating in the doctor’s courses, they were divided into three groups: completed all courses (10.7 h group), completed more than 1/2 courses (5.3~10.7 h group) and completed less than 1/2 courses (<5.3 h). According to the length of service, they were divided into groups of less than 10 years, 10-20 years and more than 20 years. Analyze the benefit difference of different doctors’ training time, and collect their feedback scales on the curriculum for the improvement of follow-up courses. Results A total of 54 doctors were included. Among them, 17 (31.5%) completed all courses, 29 (53.7%) completed more than 1/2 courses, and 8 (14.8%) completed less than 1/2 courses. There was a statistically significant difference among the three groups in the self-assessment improvement score (H=12.341, P=0.002). The results of pairwise comparison between groups of self-assessment improvement score showed that the <5.3 h group was lower than that of the 10.7 h group (P=0.007), and the the <5.3 h group was also lower than that of the 5.3~10.7 h group (P=0.002). 33 (61.1%) in the less than 10 years group, 16 (29.6%) in the 10-20 years group, and 5 (9.3%) in the more than 20 years group. There was no correlation between participating in work and course time (rs=0.113, P=0.418). 54 (100.0%) believed that they had more than moderate help (≥3 points). Most doctors (>90%) had a good evaluation of the curriculum. Conclusion The periodic neurogenetic re-education project is helpful for clinical diagnosis and treatment of rare neurogenetic diseases.
