Objective To evaluate the effect of music therapy for childbirth. Methods Such databases as The Cochrane Library, PubMed, EMbase, EBSCO host, SpringerLINK Online Journals, CBM and WanFang Data were searched from January of 2000 to December of 2010 to collect randomized controlled trials (RCTs) of music therapy for childbirth. The quality of RCTs was appraised and the data were extracted. Meta-analyses were conducted with RevMan5.02 software for the standarded RCTs. Results A total of nine RCTs were included. Five RCTs indicated the music therapy could alleviate the labor pain; five RCTs indicated the music therapy could reduce the event risk of cesarean section due to the failure of transvaginal trial labor; three RCTs indicated the music therapy could shorten the first stage of labor; two RCTs indicated the music therapy could stabilize the systolic pressure and heart rate when complete cervical dilation was done, and three RCTs indicated the music therapy could relieve anxiety. In addition, music therapy had no influence on neonate Apgar’s score; and the result of meta-analyses on postpartum hemorrhage was not reliable through sensitivity analyses. Conclusion The music therapy applied during childbirth can relieve the labor pain and anxiety, stabilize the heart rate and systolic pressure when complete cervical dilation is done, reduce the event risk of cesarean section due to the failure of transvaginal trial labor, shorten the first stage of labor, and is beneficial to the mind and body of parturient.
Music has a powerful influence on people’s psychology and emotions. Many clinical research reports confirm that music therapy can directly affect and improve people’s psychological and physiological status, alleviate patients’anxiety and other adverse physiological emotions, improve the effectiveness of surgical treatment, and promote rapid recovery. Lung cancer surgery has the characteristics of great trauma, high incidence of postoperative complications and poor prognosis. Therefore, music therapy has its unique advantages for lung cancer. With the rapid development of thoracic surgery (ERAS), as an important part of psychological intervention, music therapy plays an irreplaceable role in the surgical treatment of lung cancer. This article reviews the impact of music therapy on anxiety in lung cancer surgery.
Objective To explore the intervention effect of music therapy on children with autism spectrum disorder. Methods The China National Knowledge Infrastructure, Wanfang, Chongqing VIP, PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library were searched by computer to comprehensively collect randomized controlled trials on the intervention effect of music therapy on children with autism spectrum disorder. The search period was from the establishment of the database to December 31, 2022. RevMan 5.4 software was used for meta-analysis. Results Finally, 20 articles were included, including 913 cases in the music therapy group and 811 cases in the control group, with a total sample size of 1724 cases. The meta-analysis results showed that the overall treatment effect [standardized mean difference (SMD)=−0.95, 95% confidence interval (CI) (−1.12, −0.78)], the treatment effect of language [SMD=−0.71, 95%CI (−0.84, −0.57)], behavior [SMD=−0.65, 95%CI (−0.78, −0.52)], social interaction [SMD=−0.52, 95%CI (−0.63, −0.40)], cognition [SMD=1.37, 95%CI (1.00, 1.74)] and sensory perception [SMD=−0.89, 95%CI (−1.03, −0.74)] of the music therapy group were better than those of the control group (P<0.05). Conclusion The existing data show that music therapy applied to children with autism spectrum disorder can effectively improve their language, behavior, social interaction, cognition, and sensory perception, thereby having a positive impact on the overall treatment effect of children. However, due to the limitations of the number and quality of included studies, more high-quality studies are needed to verify.
