  • Clinical Analysis of Abdominal Wall Endometriosis

ObjectiveTo discuss the clinical characteristics, treatment and prevention of abdominal wall endometriosis (AWE). MethodsA retrospective analysis of 295 cases of AWE from February 2007 to August 2011 in our hospital was performed. ResultsAll of the patients had abdominal operations before and 99% of them had a history of caesarean section. The mean age of the patients was (31.55±4.52) years old. The average size of the mass was (2.66±1.12) cm, significantly larger than the estimation of ultrasonography before operation which was (1.91±0.83) cm (P<0.001). No relapse was discovered five months to three years after the operation. ConclusionIt is easy to diagnose abdominal wall endometriosis through medical history, clinical characteristics, physical signs and ultrasonic assessment. The prevention of AWE is very important. Operation is still the best treatment for AWE.

  • Preparation of Elastic Porous Cell Scaffold Fabricated with Combined Polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) and Hydroxyapatite (HA)

Polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) and hydroxyapatite (HA) were combined in our laboratory to fabricate an elastic porous cell scaffold with pore-forming agent, and then the scaffold was used as culture media for rat bone marrow derived mesenchymal stem cells (rBMSCs). Different porous materials (square and circular in shape) were prepared by different pore-forming agents (NaCl or paraffin spheres) with adjustable porosity (62%-76%). The HA crystals grew on the wall of hole when the material was exposed to SBF solutions, showing its biocompatibility and ability to support the cells to attach on the materials.

  • A Meta-analysis on Chinese Psychiatrists' Mental Health

ObjectiveTo investigate Chinese psychiatrists' mental health. MethodsLiteratures published from January 1989 to March 31, 2013 were searched through Chinese network databases (CNKI, Weipu, Wanfang) and English network database (OVID). Factors of Symptom checklist-90 (SCL-90) were extracted and compared with Chinese norm. These were analyzed by Meta analysis method. ResultsEleven articles were obtained and analyzed, including 725 psychiatrists. The research illustrated that the differences between psychiatrists and Chinese norm of somatization[WMD=0.19, 95%CI (0.05, 0.33), P=0.008], depression[WMD=0.25, 95%CI (0.06, 0.43), P=0.009], anxiety[WMD=0.28, 95%CI (0.09, 0.47), P=0.004], hostility[WMD=0.15, 95%CI (0.01, 0.30), P=0.03], and phobia[WMD=0.11, 95%CI (0.02, 0.20), P=0.02] were significant, while the other 4 factors were not significant (P>0.05). ConclusionPsychiatrists' mental health is poor and intervention measures need to be adopted to improve psychiatrists' mental health.

  • EFFECTIVENESS OF ONE-STAGE REPAIR AND RECONSTRUCTION OF TRAUMATIC DISLOCATION OF KNEE JOINT COMBINED WITH MULTIPLE LIGAMENT INJURIES

ObjectiveTo investigate the effectiveness of one-stage repair and reconstruction of multiple ligament injuries of the knee under arthroscopy. MethodsBetween March 2007 and March 2009,25 patients (25 knees) with multiple ligament injuries of the knee underwent one-stage repair and reconstruction under arthroscopy.Of 25 cases,16 were male and 9 were female with an average age of 29.6 years (range,18-43 years). The causes of injury were traffic accident injury in 20 cases, falling injury from height in 3 cases, and sport injury in 2 cases. The time between injury and surgery was 8-14 days (mean,10.5 days). The preoperative Lysholm score was 37.92±3.57.The X-ray film and MRI examinations showed that 17 patients had tears of anterior cruciate ligament (ACL),posterior cruciate ligament (PCL),and medial collateral ligament, and 8 patients had tears of ACL,PCL,and posterolateral corner (PLC);5 cases had medial meniscus injury and 7 cases had lateral meniscus injury. The ACL,PCL,and PLC were reconstructed under arthroscopy with autologous tendon or allogeneic tendon, and the MCL was repaired.Early active and passive functional exercises were done postoperatively. ResultsAll the incisions healed by first intention, and there was no complications of infection and deep venous thrombosis.Twenty-five patients were followed up 24-78 months (mean,50.9 months).Six patients had knee stiff postoperatively;after manipulation under anesthsia,5 patients lost less than 15° of flexion and only 1 patient lost 26° of flexion. At last follow-up,the stability of the knee joint was significantly improved. There were significant differences in the anterior drawer test, posterior drawer test,Lachman test, and varus stress and valgus stress testing at 30° between at last follow-up and at preoperation (P<0.05).The postoperative Lysholm score was 87.84±4.85,which was significantly better than the preoperative score (t=52.053,P=0.000).The International Knee Documentation Committee (IKDC) rating was nearly normal in 16 cases (64%),abnormal in 8 cases (32%),and obviously abnormal in 1 case (4%). ConclusionOne-stage repair and reconstruction of multiple ligament injuries of the knee under arthroscopy can effectively restore the function of the knee joint, and the effectiveness is reliable.

  • Subclinical Hypothyroidism of Health Check-up Population of West China Hospital, Sichuan University: A Cross-sectional Study

ObjectiveTo investigate the prevalence of subclinical hypothyroidism (SCH) in health check-up population of West China Hospital of Sichuan University from 2011 to 2012 and to discuss the relationship between SCH and metabolic syndrome (MS). MethodsThose who received thyroid function tests and health examination in the West China Hospital of Sichuan University from 2011 to 2012 were enrolled in the study. The data of medical history, blood pressure, height, weight, thyroid function, TG, HDL-C, FPG were collected. All data were analyzed by SPSS 18.0 software. ResultsA total of 11 976 persons (7 488 male and 4 488 female) received thyroid function tests. There were 1 820 persons (884 males and 936 females, 15.20%) who suffered from SCH. The SCH prevalence was significantly higher in females (20.86%) than that in males (11.81%) (P < 0.01). The people over 60 years old had the highest SCH prevalence. There were 1 145 persons (1 005 males and 140 females) suffered from MS among all 11 976 persons. The MS prevalence was significantly higher in males (13.42%) than that in females (3.12%) (P < 0.01). The SCH prevalence of the MS group was higher, which in the health group was lower (P < 0.01). The TSH level in the MS group was higher, while it was lower in the health group. ConclusionThe prevalence of SCH is higher in health check-up population; and SCH apparently increases the risk of morbidity of MS.
