Purpose To study choroidal vascular abnormal characteristics in choroidal vascular abnormal characteristics in choroiditis using indocyanine green angiography(ICGA). Methods Thirteen cases (16 eyes) of choroiditis were examined with fundus fluorescein angiography (FFA) and ICGA. Results ICGA findings in choroiditis were as follows:(1) dilatation of choroidal vessels with segmentary appearance and irregular margind;(2) hyperpermeability of choroidal vessels;(3) choroidal filling defects; (4) choroidal hypofluorescence with edema;(5) dilatation of vortex veins. (Chin J Ocul Fundus Dis,1998,14:92-84) Conclusion ICGA is useful in evaluating the lesions and circulation disturbance of choroiditis which cannot usually be demonstrable in FFA.
Objective To analyse the indocyanine green angiographic findings in contralateral eyes of patients with unilateral exudative age-related macular degeneration(AMD). Methods Fundus photograph, fundus fluorescein angiography(FFA) and indocyanine green angiography(ICGA) were performed in a series of 70 patients with unilateral AMD and drusens and pigmentary changes in the macular region in contralateral eyes. The findings of fluoroangiograms were observed and analysed. Results ICGA revealed the characteristics of the contralateral eyes as follows:(1)Drusen could be hypofluorescent, hyperfluorescent or normal fluorescent;(2)14 eyes revealed plaque-like late hyperfluorescent;(3)13 eyes revealed choroidal filling defect;(4)18 eyes revealed pindot-like clusters of late hyperfluorescence. Conclusion ICGA is useful in evaluating the lesions and circulation disturbance of the contralateral eye,and may help to find the risk factors of developing future exudative changes. Objective To investigate the iconographic characteristics and clinical significances of synchronic examination of indocyanine green angiography (ICGA) and fundus fluorescein angiography (FFA) for high myopia. Methods Thirty patients (57 eyes) with high myopia(gt;-6.00D), selected randomly and consecutively, were examined by ICGA and FFA synchronically. Results The result of early phase of FFA showed hypofluorescence of the background in 25 eyes, while of late phase showed subretinal neovascularization (SRNV) in 10 eyes and streak formation in 40 eyes. The result of ICGA showed choroidal retrobulbar arteries in 8 eyes, hypofluorescence of the background in 35 eyes, SRNV in 8 eyes, and streak formation in 52 eyes. Conclusion The iconographic characteristics of ICGA and FFA of high myopia include hypofluorescence of the background, SRNV and streak formation. ICGA can givemore exact information on the lesions of choroid in high myopia. The synchronic examination of ICGA and FFA may act as a guide to the therapy for high myopia.(Chin J Ocul Fundus Dis,2003,19:87-89)
Objective To compare the characteristics of the ocular fundus of exudative age-related macular degeneration (AMD) with polypoidal choroidal vasculopathy (PCV). Methods The photographs of ocular fundus of 123 patients (137 eyes) with exudative AMD and 42 patients (48 eyes) with PCV diagnosed by fundus photography, fundus fluorescein angiography (FFA), and indocyanine green angiography (ICGA) were retrospectively analyzed. Results In 137 eyes with exudative AMD, 16 eyes (11.7%) had classic neovascularization (CNV), 121 (88.3%) had occult CNV. In the eyes with occult CNV, 42 eyes (34.7%) had hot spots, 74 eyes (61.2%) showed plaque hyperfluorescences and 2 eyes (1.7%) had hot spots with PCV in ICGA. In 48 eyes with PCV, 7 eyes (14.6%) had subretinal reddish-orange lesions, 2 eyes (4.2%) of the polypoidal dilations with branching vascular network were detected with FFA, 36 eyes (75.0%) demonstrated polypoidal dilations with branching vascular network, and 12 eyes (25.0%) showed scattered polypoidal dilations without identifiable continuous branching vascular network, 16 eyes (33.3%) had the polypoidal dilations resembling a cluster of grapes, and 32 eyes (66.3%) showed the polypoidal dilations as several solitary round aneurismal dilations. The polypoidal dilations showed either a washout of the dye from the polyp with staining of its walls or staining of the dye in the late phase of ICGA. Conclusions The different features of exudative AMD and PCV in the ICGA, and the PCV with subretinal reddish-orange lesions are useful in the differentiate diagnosis of the both diseases. Objective To investigate the ingestion, metabolism and subcellular localization of indocyanine green (ICG) in human retinal epithelial (R PE) cells. Methods RPE cells were incubated with 0.25 mg/ml ICG under the condition of 37oC in the camera. The ICG granule and ultrastructure of RPE cells were observed under the electron microscopy after 1, 4, and 24hour incubation, and the ICG autofluorescence was detected by fluorescence microscopy after the incubation for 1, 2, 4, 8, 12, 24, and 48 hours, respectively. The ab sorbency (A value) of ICG solution was measured at 805 nm with ultraviol et/v isible specrtrometer. The standard curve of concentration of ICG was drawn and the related equation of concentration of ICG and the A value was calculated. After being incubated for 1, 2, 4, 8, 12, 24, 48, and 72 hours, respectively, the A value of supernatant fluid was calculated according to the equation. Aft er incubated with ICG for 24 hours, one sample was observed under electron microscope and fluorescence microscope per week to evaluate the metabolizable period of ICG .Results ICG granules were distributed evenly after entering the RPE cells. After incubated with 0.25 mg/ml ICG for 24 hours, no significant change of the ultrastructure of the RPE cells was found. ICG granules accu mulated in the cells as the time goes by and reached the peak after 24 hours, and then they decreased because of the slowdown of the metabolism. Few ICG was still remained in the cells 1 week later Conclusions RPE cells may take in ICG actively. ICG metabolizable period in RPE cells is long, which may be one of the mechanisms of the toxicity of ICG to the retina in the vitreous operation.(Chin J Ocul Fundus Dis,2004,20:179-181)
Purpose Observation on changes of choroidal circulation in 21 cases (42 eyes) of retinal dystrophies. Methods Fundus fluorescein angiography (ICGA) were used for comparartive analyses of the retinal and choroidal blood circulation of 21 cases (42 eyes) of retinal dystrophic diseases. Results The changes of choroidal circulation,i.e.slow perfusion or filling defects were observed in four kinds of retinal dystrophies. Conclusion ICGA may assist in providing valuable informations on choroidal circulation of retinal dystrophic diseases. (Chin J Ocul Fundus Dis,1998,14:88-91)
Objective Observation on the characteristics of choroidal melanomas with indocyanine green angiography (ICGA) and fundus fluorescsin angiography(FFA). Methods Both ICGA and FFA were used in 16 cases of choroidal melanoma for comparison and analysis. Results 81.2% of tumors showed hypofluorescence all the way or faint fluorescence in later stage.62.6% of tumors had characteristic intrinsic tumor vassels with ICGA,while 12.5% of tumors had intrinsic vessels with FFA.Those tumors that can't be diagnosed owing to whole hyperfluorescence in later stage with FFA may be diagnosed by visibility of intrinsic tumor vessels with ICGA. Conclusion ICGA is helpful in the diagnosis of choroidal melanoma. (Chin J Ocul Fundus Dis, 2000,16:3-5)
Objective To observe the clinical features of choroidal folds in Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada disease. Methods The clinical data of 112 patients with choroidal folds in Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada disease were retrospectively analyzed. All patients were examined by fundus color photography and fundus fluorescein angiography (FFA). 8 patients underwent indocyanine green angiography (ICGA) and 7 patients received optical coherence tomography (OCT) meanwhile. Results Of the 112 patients, 16 patients (14.3%) had choroidal folds. on FFA, there are 10 to 15 hypofluorescenct bands radiating from the optic disk which were similar to the large retinal vessels in shape and number(choroidal fine folds). On ICGA the choroidal folds showed obvious hyperfluorescence at the late stage. On OCT the reflective bands of Bruch membrane and retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) showed the wavy folds. Conclusions Choroidal folds in Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada disease are characterized by fine folds radiating from the optic disk which is not uncommon in Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada disease.
The experimental models of chronic hepatic lesion of 40 rabbits were made by intra-abdominal injection of thioacetamide. The chronic hepatic lesion was confirmed by pathological examination and hepatectomies were performed in accordance with different measurements on each rabbit. The observations included indocyanine green retention rate, hepatic resection volume, and the outcomes of operations. The results showed that the mortality was correlative with the change of hepatic functions in the background of chronic hepatic lesion. The indocyanine green retention and the level of serum albumin are important parameters to indicate hepatic impairment. When the former was over 40% or the latter below 2.8g% the operative danger was high and the mortality was over 50%.In accordance with the classification of hepatic function, the preoperative functional state of liver were classified:grade A,B and C.the mortality of posthepatectomy were respectively 16.7%,3O%,and 72%.The multiple progressive regression equation is employed for calculating the postoperative outcome. The equation predicted the postoperative outcome with 88.9% accuracy.
Objective To investigate the cilinical value of indocyanine green angiography(ICGA) in patients with Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada syndrome(VKH). Methods Fundus fluorescein angiography(FFA) and indocyanine green angiography(ICGA) were used for comparative analyses in 26 cases(52 eyes)of VKH. Results In the acute stage of VKH,FFA revealed the multifocal leakage in the pigment epithelium and the multifocal serous retinal detachment, and the typical FFA manifestations disappeard following treatment. In the acute stage of the disease the ICGA showed:(1)numerous patchy areas of hypofluorescence and decreased flurescence in large and middle choroidal vessels(66.7%);(2)dilatation of the choroidal vessels(70.8%)and(3)in latephase of ICGA,the patchy areas of hyperfluorescence(79.2%).During the recovery stage of the disease, the abnormal undings in ICGA were resolved slower than those found in FFA. Conclusions ICGA may assist in providing valuable informations on choroidal circulation of VKH and be useful in evaluating the curative effects. (Chin J Ocul Fundus Dis,20000,16:9-11)
