  • Exploration on Electroencephalogram Mechanism Differences of Negative Emotions Induced by Disgusted and Sad Situation Images

Evolutionary psychology holds such an opinion that negative situation may threaten survival, trigger avoidance motive and have poor effects on the human body function and the psychological quality. Both disgusted and sad situations can induce negative emotions. However, differences between the two situations on attention capture and emotion cognition during the emotion induction are still not well known. Typical disgusted and sad situation images were used in the present study to induce two negative emotions, and 15 young students (7 males and 8 females, aged 27±3) were recruited in the experiments. Electroencephalogram of 32 leads was recorded when the subjects were viewing situation images, and event-related potentials (ERP) of all leads were obtained for future analysis. Paired sample t tests were carried out on two ERP signals separately induced by disgusted and sad situation images to get time quantum with significant statistical differences between the two ERP signals. Root-mean-square deviations of two ERP signals during each time quantum were calculated and the brain topographic map based on root-mean-square deviations was drawn to display differences of two ERP signals in spatial. Results showed that differences of ERP signals induced by disgusted and sad situation images were mainly manifested in T1 (120-450 ms) early and T2 (800-1 000 ms) later. During the period of T1, the occipital lobe reflecting attention capture was activated by both disgusted and sad situation images, but the prefrontal cortex reflecting emotion sense was activated only by disgusted situation images. During the period of T2, the prefrontal cortex was activated by both disgusted and sad situation images. However, the parietal lobe was activated only by disgusted situation images, which showed stronger emotional perception. The research results would have enlightenment to deepen understanding of negative emotions and to explore deep cognitive neuroscience mechanisms of negative emotion induction.

  • Pretreatment Research Based on Left and Right Hand Motor Imagery for Single-channel Electroencephalogram

Most of electroencephalogram (EEG) acquired by multi-channels is difficult to be applied to the single-channel brain-computer interface (BCI) in the EEG analysis method based on left and right hand motor imagery. The present research applied an improved independent component analysis (ICA) method to realize pretreatment of the EEG effectively. Firstly, data drift was removed through linear drift correction. Secondly, the number of virtual channels were increased by applying delayed window data and some EEG artifacts which are namely electrooculogram (EOG) and electrocardiogram (ECG) were removed by ICA. Finally, the average instantaneous energy characteristics were calculated and classified through the instantaneous amplitude which was solved by applying Hilbert-Huang transform (HHT). The experiment proves that the method completes the EEG pretreatment and improves classification ratio of single-channel EEG, and lays a foundation of single-channel and portable BCI.

  • In Situ Polymerization and Characterization of Hydroxyapatite/polyurethane Implanted Material

In order to improve the interfacial bonding strength of hydroxyapatite/polyurethane implanted material and dispersion of hydroxyapatite in the polyurethane matrix, we in the present study synthesized nano-hydroxyapatite/polyurethane composites by in situ polymerization. We then characterized and analyzed the fracture morphology, thermal stability, glass transition temperature and mechanical properties. We seeded MG63 cells on composites to evaluate the cytocompatibility of the composites. In situ polymerization could improve the interfacial bonding strength, ameliorate dispersion of hydroxyapatite in the properties of the composites. After adding 20 wt% hydroxyapatite into the polyurethane, the thermal stability was improved and the glass transition temperatures were increased. The tensile strength and maximum elongation were 6.83 MPa and 861.17%, respectively. Compared with those of pure polyurethane the tensile strength and maximum elongation increased by 236.45% and 143.30%, respectively. The composites were helpful for cell adhesion and proliferation in cultivation.

  • Diagnosis and Treatment Experience of Liver Abscess after Liver Transplantation: A Report of 8 Cases

ObjectiveTo investigate the clinical characteristics and treatment to improve the prognosis of liver abscess after liver transplantation. MethodsEight cases of liver abscess after liver transplantation who were treated in our hospital from Apr. 1999 to Sep. 2013 were retrospectively analyzed, including clinical presentation, predisposing factors, treatment, and prognosis of outcomes. ResultsIn our group, the incidence of liver abscess after liver transplantation was 2.07% (8/387), and main predisposing factors included biliary complications, hepatic artery complications, and so on. The treatments included sensitive antibiotics therapy, reducing or deactivating immunosuppressant, aspiration and drainage of abscess by the ultrasound guiding, balloon valvuloplasty for biliary stenosis, percutaneous transhepatic cholangial drainage (PTCD), indwelling biliary stents, endoscopic nasobiliary drainage (ENBD), and hepatic resection. All of the 8 cases were followed-up for 3-59 months (median of 23 months), during the follow-up period, 4 cases were cured, 1 case improved, and 3 cases died. ConclusionsHepatic arterial and biliary complications are the most common predisposing factors for liver abscess after liver transplantation. Active prevention and treatment of biliary and hepatic arterial complications after liver transplantation are the key to reduce the occurrence of liver abscess and improve the prognosis of it.
