  • EFFECT OF INSULIN-LIKE GROWTH FACTOR-I ON CULTURED ARTICULAR CHONDROCYTES OF RABBITS

Objective To investigate the influenceof insulin-like growth factor-I (IGF-I) on biological characteristics of articular chondrocytes cultured in vitro of rabbits. Methods Monolayer articular chondrocytes of 4week old rabbits were cultured in medium with IGF-I, at the concentrations of 3, 10, 30, 100, and300ng/ml. The DNA content in cells and glucuronic acid content in matrix were detected on the 2nd, 4th, 6th days after culture. Results The DNA content in cells and the glucuronic acid content in matrix in articular chondrocytes cultured in medium with IGF-I at concentrations of 3-300ng/ml were all significantly higher than those in control group (P<0.01), which reached the peak at the concentrations of 30-100mg/ml on the 4th day. Conclusion IGF-I could obviously promote theproliferation of articular chondrocytes in vitro, and there exist time-dependent and dose-dependent effect.

  • Vitamin D nutritional status in Chinese children and adolescents: a meta-analysis

ObjectiveTo systematically review vitamin D nutritional status among children and adolescents in China.MethodsCNKI, CBM, WanFang Data, VIP and PubMed databases were electronically searched to collect cross-sectional studies on vitamin D nutritional status among children and adolescents in China from inception to September, 2020. Two reviewers independently screened literature, extracted data and assessed risk of bias of included studies. Meta-analysis was then performed by using Stata 11.0 software.ResultsA total of 23 cross-sectional studies involving 38 047 total sample size were included. The results of meta-analysis showed that the combined vitamin D deficiency rate was 27.9% (95%CI 21.9% to 33.8%), and the inadequate rate was 31.6% (95%CI 25.7% to 37.6%).Subgroup analysis showed that vitamin D deficiency rate of females was higher than that of males (25.3% vs. 22.5%). The vitamin D deficiency rate of children aged 10 to 18 was higher than those aged 6 to 9 (44.9% vs. 32.9%). The vitamin D deficiency rate of children in the north was higher than that in south (36.1% vs. 14.8%). The vitamin D deficiency rate from 2015 to 2018 was higher than that from 2011 to 2014 (34.9% vs. 17.6%). In addition, the vitamin D deficiency rate ofurban children was higher than that of rural children (29.9% vs. 24.9%).ConclusionsThe incidence of vitamin D deficiency among children and adolescents is high in China. Due to limited quality and quantity of the included studies, more high quality studies are required to verify above conclusions.

  • Comparison of clinicopathological characteristics and prognosis of 1 560 breast cancer patients with different HER2 expression status

Objective To investigate the differences in clinicopathological characteristics and prognostic survival of human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2) high expression, HER2 low expression and HER2 negative breast cancer. MethodWe retrospectively collected 1 560 female breast cancer patients who underwent surgical treatment at the Department of Breast and Thyroid Surgery in Renmin Hospital of Wuhan University between January 8, 2010 and December 31, 2015, and divided them into high expression group, low expression group and negative group according to HER2 expression, to compare the differences in clinicopathological characteristics among the three groups of breast cancer patients and to explore the factors influencing prognosis. Results The proportions of histological grade Ⅲ, tumor diameter >2 cm, lymph node metastasis, TNM stage Ⅲ, Ki67 high expression, and hormone receptor negative expression were higher in the high expression group than those in the low expression group and negative group (P<0.050); the proportions of histological grade Ⅲ, tumor diameter >2 cm, lymph node metastasis, and TNM stage Ⅲ were higher in the low expression group than those in the negative group (P<0.050). However, the proportions of Ki67 high expression and hormone receptor negative expression were lower than those of the negative group (P<0.050). The 5-year disease-free survival rate were 85.6%, 80.3% and 74.5% for the high expression, low expression and negative group, respectively, and the 5-year overall survival rate were 90.4%, 86.0% and 80.7%, respectively. The results of multivariate Cox proportional hazard model showed that patients with high histological grade, late TNM stage, Ki67 high expression and weaker HER2 expression intensity had worse 5-year disease-free survival (P<0.050); patients with older age, high histological grade, lymph node metastasis, late TNM stage, Ki67 high expression and weaker HER2 expression intensity had worse 5-year overall survival (P<0.050). Conclusions The intensity of HER2 expression affects the 5-year disease-free survival and overall survival of breast cancer patients, and the higher the intensity of HER2 expression, the better the 5-year disease-free survival and overall survival, while the weaker the HER2 expression, the worse the 5-year disease-free survival and overall survival.
