  • The feed-forward control in the safety nursing of ophthalmologic day surgery patients under general anesthesia

Objective To explore the effect of the feed-forward control on safety nursing of ophthalmologic day surgery patients under general anesthesia. Methods A total of 623 ophthalmologic day surgery patients under general anesthesia were retrospectively selected into the control group, who adapted the routine nursing in the Ophthalmic Day Surgery Center from January to December 2015; a total of 1 210 ophthalmologic day surgery patients under general anesthesia were retrospectively selected into the observation group, who received the feed-forward control of nursing safety management on the basis of routine nursing care from January to December 2016. The incidence rate of the adverse events and potential safety hazards and satisfaction rate were compared between the two groups. Results The incidence rate of the adverse events and potential safety hazards in the observation group (0.83%, 10/1 210) was lower than that in the control group (3.37%, 21/623), the satisfaction rate in the observation group (98.67%) was higher than that in the control group (97.11%), and the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05). Conclusion The application of feed-forward control in the safety care of patients during the ophthalmologic day surgery under general anesthesia can effectively reduce the incidence of adverse events and potential safety hazards, and ensure the safety of medical care.

  • Quality assessment of Chinese clinical practice guidelines for ophthalmology

Objectives To evaluate the quality of ophthalmic clinical practice guidelines in China by using the AGREE Ⅱ instrument. Methods CBM, CNKI, VIP, and WanFang Data databases were electronically searched to collect Chinese guidelines for ophthalmology from inception to December 2017. Three reviewers independently evaluated the included guidelines using the AGREE Ⅱ instrument. Results A total of 60 Chinese clinical guidelines for ophthalmology were included. The average scores of the six domains including scope and purpose, stakeholder involvement, rigorism of development, clarity of presentation, applicability and editorial independence were 66.4%, 24.6%, 13.5%, 67.4%, 14.5%, and 19.3%, respectively. The guidelines published from 2013 to 2017 scored higher than those published previously in all areas except for domain 4 clarity of presentation. Conclusions The quality of current ophthalmic clinical practice guidelines in China is low, and there is still a big gap between them and the international guidelines. Guidelines developers should place more emphasis on developing regulations to improve stakeholder involvement, rigorism of development, applicability and editorial independence.

  • The application and perspectives of 3D heads-up display viewing system in vitreoretinal surgery

There has been ongoing progress in the new technique and equipment in vitreoretinal surgery in recent years, contributing to the improvement of treatment of various vitreoretinal diseases. The application of 3D heads-up display viewing system (3D viewing system) has been one of the most fascinating breakthroughs in vitreoretinal surgery. Unlike the traditional method in which the surgeons have to look through the microscope eyepieces, this system allows them to turn their heads up and operate with their eyes on a high-definition 3D monitor. It provides the surgeons with superior visualization and stereoscopic sensation. And increasing studies have revealed it to be as safe and effective as the traditional microscopic system. Furthermore, the surgeons can keep a heads-up position in a more comfortable posture and lesson the pressure on cervical spine. Meanwhile, 3D viewing system makes it easier for the teaching and learning process among surgeons and assistants. However, there are still potential disadvantages including the latency between surgeon maneuver and visualization on the display, learning curves and cost. We hope that the 3D viewing system will be widely used and become a useful new tool for various vitreoretinal diseases in the near future with rapid development in the technology and constant upgrade of the system.

  • The review and prospect of the decade of neuro-ophthalmology in China

Neuro-ophthalmology is an interdisciplinary discipline that spans multiple disciplines such as ophthalmology, neurology, and neurosurgery, and plays an important role in ophthalmology. Since the establishment of the Neuro-Ophthalmology Group in 2011, it has shown a good momentum of accelerated development of neuroophthalmology team building, promoting the process of neuroophthalmology standardization and strengthening interdisciplinary cooperation. However, there is still a gap between the level of neuro-ophthalmology in China and that in developed countries, which still cannot get rid of the stage of introduction and imitation. It is still a long way to form neuro-ophthalmology with unique characteristics in China. In the future, we should carry out clinical research while advancing basic research work, and establish a standard training system to strengthen the training of neuroophthalmologists. It is expected that in the next 10 years, China's neuro-ophthalmic diagnosis and research level will be significantly improved, and a number of landmark academic achievements will be achieved, and a number of internationally and domestically renowned neuro-ophthalmologist will be trained to further enhance the international academic status of neuro-ophthalmic research in China.

  • Research hot spots of ophthalmology-related coronavirus disease 2019

ObjectiveTo study the research hot spots of ophthalmology-related coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). MethodsPubMed database as the data source, the literatures of ophthalmology-related COVID-19 published on January 1, 2020 to February 22, 2022 were collected, limited to Medline included, the language type was limited to English and Chinese, and 1 592 literatures were included. By reading the titles and abstracts, the literatures of meeting notice, editor's note, etc. and the literature that was not quite relevant with ophthalmology-related COVID-19 were removed, and finally 1 547 literatures were included. Bibliographic Items Co-occurrence Matrix Builder (BICOMB 2.02 software) was used to collect the frequency of major Mesh terms/subheadings and the frequency of major Mesh terms after removing the subheadings, and the number of included articles published in the top 10 journals by the number of ophthalmology-related COVID-19 articles was recorded. VosViewer 1.6.18 software was used for cluster analysis of collaborator network and major Mesh terms, and the publication status and country or region distribution of active authors of ophthalmology-related COVID-19 were recorded. ResultsOf the 1 547 literatures, the active authors were mainly from India, Italy, Singapore, Spain, and Hong Kong, China, and so on; the top 10 journals published 617 articles in total (39.88%, 617/1 547). The high frequency major Mesh terms/subheadings included COVID-19, viral pneumonia, coronavirus infection, eye diseases/epidemiology, complications, prevention & control, diagnosis, virology, and Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2, betacoronavirus/isolation & purification, ophthalmology/education, organization & administration, telemedicine, delivery of health care/organization & administration, and mucormycosis/diagnosis, etc. After taking out the subheadings, the high frequency of major Mesh terms also included conjunctivitis, orbital disease, retinal diseases, neuromyelitis optica, retinal vein occlusion, myopia and other eye diseases, eye diseases-related systemic diseases, such as multiple sclerosis and Miller Fisher syndrome, therapy and prevention-related drugs, such as hydroxyl chloroquine, angiogenesis inhibitors, and vaccination. ConclusionsOphthalmology-related COVID-19 researches have received extensive attention worldwide, COVID-19 is associated with multiple ocular diseases of anterior and posterior segments. COVID-19-related mucormycosis, hydroxychloroquine and possible retinal toxicity, and possible ocular adverse effects associated with vaccination are also noteworthy.
