This paper introduced database resources, retrieval methods, boolean operators, wildcard characters and proximity operators of ProQuest Dialog. Integrated with characteristics of literature retrieval of systematic reviews, this paper also introduced how to search literature in ProQuest Dialog when conducting a systematic review, in order to help reviewers to reasonably choose databases and improve their searching efficiency.
ObjectiveUsing SYRCLE tool (the SYstematic Review Centre for Laboratory animal Experimentation) to evaluate the risk of bias of animal studies in stroke field published in Chinese journals, identify problems of these studies in design, implementation and measurement, in order to provide references for improving the quality of animal studies in China. MethodsWe searched databases including CBM, VIP, CNKI and WanFang Data from inception to December 31st, 2014. Two reviewers independently screened literature, extracted data, and assessed the risk of bias of included animal studies using SYRCLE tool developed by the National Centre for the Replacement, Refinement and Reduction of Animals in Research. ResultsA total of 582 studies were included. The assessment results showed that the number of reported items with "Low Risk" in SYRCLE, which have 22 items, reported in >50% of the 4 items and in <30% the 16 items in articles of animals experiments. More than 99% of the studies fulfilled the 3 items and more than 17% of the articles to meet the 10 items while less than 1% of the documents met the 17 items. The quality of studies increased excepted the period of 2010 to 2014. The methodological quality of animal experiments presented a trend of increasing and no significant differences were found in CSCD indexed or not. ConclusionThe methodological quality of animal experiments of stroke is poor in China in terms of the selection bias, implementation bias, measurement bias, withdraw bias and reporting bias.
ObjectiveTo systematically review the effects of aminophylline combined with traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) in the treatment of asthma. MethodsDatabases including The Cochrane Library(Issue 1, 2015), PubMed, EMbase, CNKI, VIP and WanFang Data databases were electronically searched from January 2005 to December 2014 to collect randomized controlled trials (RCTs) about the treatment of bronchial asthma combining aminophylline with TCM. Two reviewers independently screened literature, extracted data and assessed the risk of bias of included studies. Then, meta-analysis was performed using RevMan 5.3 software. ResultsA total of 10 RCTs involving 820 participants were included. The results of meta-analysis showed that: The total clinical effective rate in the aminophylline plus TCM group was higher than that of the aminophylline alone group (RR=1.22, 95%CI 1.11 to 1.33). The FEV1 in the aminophylline plus TCM group was also higher than that of the aminophylline alone group (MD=0.53, 95%CI 0.33 to 0.73). ConclusionCurrent evidence shows, the total clinical effective rate of aminophylline combined with TCM for asthma is better than that of aminophylline alone, and its mechanism may be related to the improvement of FEV1. Due to the limited quantity and quality of included studies, the above conclusion needs to be further verified by more high quality studies.
ObjectiveTo assess the efficacy and safety of Tiao-She nursing of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) for mild cognitive disorder (MCD), and to provide theoretical basis for developing evidence-based guideline of Tiao-She nursing of TCM. MethodsWe searched PubMed, Web of Science, The Cochrane Library, EMbase, MEDLINE, Springerlink, CBM, CNKI, VIP and WanFang Data for systematic reviews/meta-analyses (SRs/MAs), as well as randomized controlled trials (RCTs), up to December 2014. Two reviewers screened literature according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria and extracted data. Methodological quality and evidence quality of included SRs/MAs were assessed using AMSTAR scale and GRADE tool, respectively. Methodological quality of included RCTs was assessed using risk of bias assessment tool of the Cochrane Handbook 5.1.0. ResultsNine RCTs were identified, but no SRs/MAs was retrieved. Interventions for MCD included acupoint massage, moxibustion, auricular-plaster therapy, qigong, Tai chi, calligraphy, and food therapy of ginseng. All included RCTs showed that Tiao-She nursing of TCM was effective on cognitive ability and psychosocial function. ConclusionTiao-She nursing of TCM might be effective and safe, and the methods are variable. Due to the limitation of the quality of included RCTs, the efficacy and safety of Tiao-She nursing of TCM for MCD are still needed to be verified by high quality studies.
ObjectiveTo evaluate the quality of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) guidelines, so as to provide evidence for developing similar guidelines. MethodsWe systematically searched TCM guidelines published in domestic medical journals from WanFang Data, VIP, CNKI and CBM. We also searched Google, Amazon.cn and dangdang.com by hand in order to obtain TCM guidelines published in monographs. And we used AGREE II instrument to assess the methodological quality of included guidelines. ResultsA total of 115 guidelines (87 published in domestic medical journals and 28 published in monographs) were included. Scaled domain percentages from highest to lowest were:scope and purpose (41%), stakeholder involvement (28%), clarity of presentation (33%), rigour of development (20%), editorial independence (9%) and applicability (7%). ConclusionThere is still a large gap about methodological quality between TCM guidelines and international guidelines. So the guideline developers should systematically search, evaluate and synthesize the evidence based on structured problems. At the same time, they also need to consider the costs of recommendations, the implementation environment and the patients' preference and values. On this basis, the developer could further increase the transparency and independence during developing TCM guidelines.
Qualitative research can provide interpretations of patients on experience, attitudes, beliefs and psychological changes of disease nursing, so it reflects the scientificity, humanity and ethicality of nursing science. How to assess and integrate findings derived from qualitative researches and use them in decision making is a key issue for researchers. This paper introduced how to evaluate the methodological quality and reporting quality of qualitative research, perform qualitative systematic review and meta-synthesis, and evaluate the quality of evidence of meta-syntheses using the ConQual tool.
For the purposes of promoting the effect of secondary prevention of myocardial infarction, and improving the compliance with myocardial infarction (MI) secondary prevention, a guideline for strengthening patients self-management on non-pharmacological secondary prevention was produced by an multidiscipline team leaded by Chinese Association of Integrative Medicine clinical cardiovascular branch, Lanzhou University Evidence-Based Medicine Center, Peking University School of Nursing, Tianjin University of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Beijing University of Chinese Medicine. This is the first version of patient guideline in China. This paper introduces the main methods, processes and characteristics of the patient guideline development. It will provide reference to future researchers to the development of the patient guideline.
