  • Application of Lidocaine on Postoperative Pain Management after Throat Surgery

ObjectiveTo explore the effect of lidocaine on postoperative pain management after throat surgery. MethodsSixty patients undergoing throat surgery between June 2011 and May 2013 were randomly divided into trial group and control group, with 30 in each group. Patients in the trial group accepted lidocaine for pain management, while the control group used dicaine. Pain management effect was observed and compared between the two groups. ResultsThe pain scores of patients at hour 0.5, 2.0, 6.0, and 24.0 after surgery were 2.7±0.8, 2.2±0.9, 1.7±0.8, and 1.5±0.3 in the trial group, and 4.7±1.1, 4.2±0.8, 3.4±0.7, and 2.9±0.5 in the control group, and the differences were significant (P<0.05). Postoperative incidences 6.7% in the trial group, and 30.0% in the control group, and the difference was also significant (P<0.05). ConclusionLidocaine can reduce the pain of patients in postoperative pain management after throat surgery, with such advantages as long-time functioning, no toxic side effect, and obvious effect, which is worth promoting.

  • Research Progress of the Regulation Function of Epigenetics on Bone Marrow Mesenchymal Stem Cells

The regulation of epigenetics on bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) has been a research hot spot in medical area. This paper mainly summarizes the progress of the regulation of DNA methylation, histone acetylation, small interfering RNA (siRNA) induced gene silence and microRNA (miRNA) on BMSCs. Our analysis shows that the regulation of epigenetics on BMSCs plays a significant role in the repair of bone tissue, nervous tissue and cardiac muscle.

  • RESEARCH PROGRESS OF OSTEOCLASTS FUNCTION BEYOND BONE RESORPTION

ObjectiveTo review the osteoclasts (OC) function beyond bone resorption. MethodsThe related literature on OC function beyond bone resorption was reviewed, analyzed, and summarized. ResultsOC control the bone formation through releasing of matrix-derived growth factors, bidirectional cell-to-cell signals, and secreting OC-coupling factors, and play an important role in the niche formation, hematopoietic stem cells mobilization, and maintenance of its quantity and function;besides, OCs also regulate angiogenesis. ConclusionThese discoveries greatly enrich the current knowledge of OC function and open up an all-new research domain. However, the exact regulatory mechanism of OC affecting the hematopoiesis is still lack in-depth understood. Additionally, it remains to be elucidated how OC-coupling factors act on osteoblast lineage differentiation and how OC-induced angiogenesis participates in physiological and pathological processes. Unclosing the underlying mechanisms will facilitate providing scientific therapeutic strategies for treatment of many OC-related diseases.

  • PROGRESS ON COMBINATION FIELDS OF THREE TISSUE ENGINEERING ELEMETS FOR CARTILAGE REPAIR

ObjectiveTo summarize the tissue engineering techniques for cartilage repair on the combination fields of the three elements of tissue engineering:cells, scaffolds and signals. MethodsThe literature on cell-scaffold-based cartilage repair techniques, cell-free scaffolds, and scaffold-free approaches was reviewed and summarized. ResultsThe cell-scaffold-based cartilage repair techniques such as matrix-induced autologous chondrocyte implantation (chondrocytes are seeded on the scaffold) are able to enhance the survival of the cells; cell-free scaffolds can promote cell recruitment with chemoatractants; and scaffold-free approaches have better hyaline-like properties and can avoid the toxic effect of scaffold degradation products. ConclusionCombination fields of the three elements of tissue engineering provide a more biomimetic environment for cartilage repair and have broad prospects.
