White matter lesion (WML) of presumed vascular origin is one of the common imaging manifestations of cerebral small vessel diseases, which is the main reason of cognitive impairment and even vascular dementia in the elderly. However, there is a lack of early and effective diagnostic methods currently. In recent years, studies of diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) and resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (rs-fMRI) have shown that cognitive impairment in patients with WMLs is associated with disrupted white matter microstructural and brain network connectivity. Therefore, it’s speculated that DTI and rs-fMRI can be effective in early imaging diagnosis of WMLs-related cognitive impairment. This article reviews the role and significance of DTI and rs-fMRI in WMLs-related cognitive impairment.
Objective To assess the methodological quality and reporting quality of meta-analysis published in Chinese Acupuncture & Moxibustion. Methods We searched CNKI database to collect meta-analysis published in Chinese Acupuncture & Moxibustion up to 2015. Methodological quality assessment was carried out using AMSTAR tool, and quality assessment was carried out by PRISMA checklist. Data analysis was performed by using SPSS 19.0 software. Results A total of 31 meta-analyses were enrolled. Among all the 31 meta-analyses, the first authors came from 19 institutions, and 21 meta-analysis were supported by fundings. All meta-analyses were about the evaluations of acupuncture intervention, involving 10 disease systems (ICD-10) and sub-health. The mean score of the methodological assessment was 7.42±1.13. In addition, the mean score of reporting quality was 18.79±2.04. Conclusion The meta-analyses published in Chinese Acupuncture & Moxibustion have high quality on methodology as well as reporting. Due to the limited quality and quantity of included studies, the above results are needed to be further assessed by more studies.
ObjectivesTo assess the methodological quality and reporting quality of meta-analysis published on The Chinese Journal of Nursing.MethodsCNKI and WanFang Data databases were electronically searched to collect meta-analysis which published on The Chinese Journal of Nursing from inception to December 2017. Two reviewers independently screened literature, extracted data and assessed the methodological quality and the reporting quality by AMSTAR scale and PRISMA statement. Statistical analysis was then performed by using SPSS 19.0 software.ResultsA total of 53 meta-analyses were included, which involved 7 disease systems and sub-health status. The mean score of the methodological assessment by AMSTAR was 7.75±1.32, including 9 high-quality papers (17.0%), 41 middle-quality papers (77.4%), and 3 low-quality papers (5.6%). The mean score of the reporting quality assessment by PRISMA was 22.5±3.08, including 39 relatively complete papers (73.6%), 11 papers with certain defects (20.8%), and 3 papers with serious defects (5.6%).ConclusionsThe methodological and reporting quality of meta-analysis published on The Chinese Journal of Nursing deserves further improvement.
Objectives To analyze the status quo of projects on pension services funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), with the aim of enlarging the perspective and horizon of related studies, and improving both the quantity and quality of such projects in NSFC. Methods NSFC website was systematically searched to collect information of pension service projects funded by NSFC from 2008 to 2017. SPSS 19.0 software was subsequently applied to analyze the characteristics of the projects in terms of study type, regional distribution, profession and institution, and fund scale, etc. Results A total of 39 projects on pension service were included, among which 12 were focused on related strategies (30.8%), 11 on related models (28.2%), and 6 on the effects of different interventions (15.4%). The 39 projects were unbalanced in terms of geographical distribution, institutions and research types. Conclusions NSFC should facilitate the research of pension service by expanding the related fund scale, increasing the fund support, strengthening the exchange of domestically different regions, and enhancing international cooperation.
Objective To evaluate the efficacy of percutaneous kyphoplasty (PKP) in hyperextension position for the treatment of osteoporotic vertebral compression fracture (OVCF) with vacuum phenomenon. Methods Between April 2004and August 2009, 35 patients who suffered from OVCF with vacuum phenomenon were treated with PKP in hyperextension position, 8 patients were excluded because of lost follow-up. In 27 follow-up cases, there were 9 males and 18 females with an average age of 75 years (range, 58-90 years) and with an average disease duration of 9.8 months (range, 2-17 months). One vertebral body was involved in 26 cases and 2 vertebral bodies were involved in 1 case. According to the imaging examination and Krauss et al. criterion, all patients were diagnosed as having vertebral vacuum phenomenon. Refer to the lateral X-ray views, the height and the kyphotic angle of the involved vertebral body were measured pre- and postoperatively. The surgical outcomes were evaluated by using visual analogue scale (VAS) and Oswestry disabil ity index (ODI) system. Results All operations were performed successfully with no severe compl ication. The mean follow-up of 27 patients was 32 months (range, 24-58 months). The mean cl inical heal ing time of OVCF was 4 months (range, 3-6 months). The VAS score, ODI system, anterior and medial height of involved vertebral body, kyphotic angle of involved vertebral body were improved significantly at 1 week after operation and at last follow-up (P lt; 0.05); there was no significant difference between at 1 week after operation and at last follow-up (P gt; 0.05). There was no significant difference in the posterior height of involved vertebral body among different postoperative time-points (P gt; 0.05). Asymptomatic cement leakage occurred in 3 patients. Adjacent vertebral fracture occurred in 1 patient at 7 months. Intravertebral vacuums showed a compact and sol id cement fill ing pattern. Conclusion PKP in hyperextension position can significantly rel ieve back pain, restore vertebral height, and correct local kyphosis in the treatment of OVCF with vacuum phenomenon.
ObjectivesTo explore the characteristics of Chinese methodological studies on patient compliance in clinical trials so as to provide reference for clinical trial of patient compliance in future.MethodsCNKI, VIP, CBM and WanFang Data databases were electronically searched to collect methodological studies on patient compliance in clinical trials published in Chinese language from January 2000 to December 2018. Two reviewers independently screened literature, extracted data and then, qualitative analysis of document characteristics was then performed.ResultsA total of 84 articles were included, in which 68 were studies on Western medicine and 16 were studies on traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). The results showed that: the quantity of studies on patient compliance increased along with time. However, those in TCM field did not increase. All included studies summarized their strategies to improve patient compliance, however key information for quality evaluation were missing.ConclusionsThere is still a lack of research on how to improve patients’ compliance in clinical trials to ensure the reliability of the results. Existing studies have not systematically and comprehensively explored the influencing factors of patients’ compliance. Clinical trials researchers in China have not focused sufficiently to patients’ compliance and lack the proper methodology to frame studies.
