  • A clinical study on facial palsy after stroke

Objective To investigate the clinical characteristics of facial palsy after stroke (FPS) in order to enhance the understanding of FPS. Methods Patients with stroke and admitted to hospital from March to June 2015 were selected in this study. They were evaluated by Modified House-Braekmann (MHBN), Barthel Index (BI), National Institute of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS), Standardized Swallowing Assessment and Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9) within 48 hours after admitting. According to the MHBN scores, the patients were divided into FPS group and non-FPS group, and the incidences of dysphagia and depression, and the scores of BI, NIHSS, and PHQ-9 were compared between the two group. Six months later, the patients’ prognosis of stroke was assessed by the Modified Rankin Scale. Results A total of 129 patients were enrolled in this study, including 81 (62.8%) with FPS, and 48 (37.2%) without FPS. The incidences of dysphagia and depression in the FPS group (64.2%, 59.3%) were higher than those in the non-FPS group (22.9%, 18.8%), and the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05). The BI, NIHSS, PHQ-9 scores in the FPS group were 41.79±14.19, 11.23±4.62, 11.54±3.43, respectively, while the scores in the non-FPS group were 66.39±19.96, 7.54±3.69, 7.67±2.89, respectively; the differences in the scores between the two groups were statistically significant (P<0.05). Six months later, the patients’ prognosis in the non-FPS group was better than that in the FPS group (67.4%vs. 32.9%, P<0.001). Conclusions There is a high incidence of FPS, and there are high incidences of dysphagia and depression in the FPS patients with stroke. FPS influences the patients’ prognosis, so the understanding and treatment of FPS should be enhanced.

  • Research progress on the relationship between serum uric acid level and hypertensive disorder of pregnancy

Hypertensive disorder of pregnancy (HDP) is a type of disease unique to women during pregnancy. The most common clinical types are gestational hypertension and preeclampsia, which seriously threaten the health of pregnant women and fetuses. At present, there are no established criteria for the prediction and prevention of HDP. In recent years, a large number of studies have been carried out on HDP around the world, and many studies have shown a close correlation between serum uric acid and HDP. This article reviews the results of existing literature, elucidates the relationship between serum uric acid and the pathogenesis of HDP, prediction of HDP occurrence and development, and adverse pregnancy outcomes.

  • The role of anti-Müllerian hormone in polycystic ovary syndrome

Polycystic ovary syndrome is one of the common reproductive endocrine diseases in women in recent years. A large number of studies have found that serum anti-Müllerian hormone levels in patients with polycystic ovary syndrome are significantly higher than those in normal women, especially in anovulatory patients with polycystic ovary syndrome. This article briefly introduces the relationship between follicular development, hyperandrogenemia, obesity, and insulin resistance in the pathological manifestations of polycystic ovary syndrome and anti-Müllerian hormone, and the application of anti-Müllerian hormone in assisted reproduction, ovarian reserve and diagnosis in patients with polycystic ovary syndrome. It aims to provide a basis for better use of anti-Müllerian in the diagnosis and treatment of polycystic ovary syndrome.

  • Bioinformatics analysis of circular RNAs differential expression in polycystic ovary syndrome

Objective To explore the differential expression of circular RNAs (circRNAs) in polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) by bioinformatics, and predict the microRNAs (miRNAs) associated with them. Methods The expression profile of cumulus cells gene chip in PCOS was searched in the Gene Expression Omnibus database, and differential circRNAs were screened by GEO2R tool of the database. The Gene Ontology and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes signaling pathways of different circRNA genes were analyzed using the DAVID 6.8 database. Circular RNA interactome was used to predict the potential regulated miRNAs. Cytoscape software was used to establish circRNA-miRNA network map. The potential regulatory miRNAs were predicted by the 10 circRNAs with the most significant differences in up-regulation and down-regulation. Results A total of 247 circRNAs were obtained in PCOS, and 277 miRNAs binding to up-regulated circRNA genes and 125 miRNAs binding to down-regulated circRNA genes were predicted. The top 10 miRNAs that could bind to multiple differential circRNAs were hsa-miR-557, hsa-miR-507, hsa-miR-224, hsa-miR-136, hsa-miR-127-5p, hsa-miR-579, hsa-miR-502-5p, hsa-miR-186, hsa-miR-1253, and hsa-miR-432. Conclusion The differential expression analysis of circRNAs is helpful to understand the main role of circRNAs in PCOS, and the prediction of potential regulated miRNAs can help to understand the pathogenesis of the disease.
