  • Design of longitudinal auto-tracking of the detector on X-ray in digital radiography

One algorithm is designed to implement longitudinal auto-tracking of the the detector on X-ray in the digital radiography system (DR) with manual collimator. In this study, when the longitudinal length of field of view (LFOV) on the detector is coincided with the longitudinal effective imaging size of the detector, the collimator half open angle (Ψ), the maximum centric distance (emax) between the center of X-ray field of view and the projection center of the focal spot, and the detector moving distance for auto-traking can be calculated automatically. When LFOV is smaller than the longitudinal effective imaging size of the detector by reducing Ψ, the emax can still be used to calculate the detector moving distance. Using this auto-tracking algorithm in DR with manual collimator, the tested results show that the X-ray projection is totally covered by the effective imaging area of the detector, although the center of the field of view is not aligned with the center of the effective imaging area of the detector. As a simple and low-cost design, the algorithm can be used for longitudinal auto-tracking of the detector on X-ray in the manual collimator DR.

  • Survey and analysis of the status of aeromedical rescue in medical institutions in the Qinling-Daba mountainous area

Objective To understand the situation and technical level of aeromedical rescue in medical institutions in Qinling-Daba mountainous area. Methods A questionnaire survey was conducted on the staff of medical institutions of the medical consortium of Renmin Hospital of Hubei University of Medicine, located in Qinling-Daba mountainous area between June and September 2023. The basic information and development, demand, and knowledge mastery of aeromedical rescue were investigated. Results A total of 45 medical institutions participated in the research, 500 questionnaires were sent out, and 479 valid questionnaires were recovered, with an effective rate of 95.8%. Among them, there were 7 tertiary hospitals, 23 secondary hospitals, and 15 township health institutions; 11 medical institutions had participated in aeromedical rescue, and 17 hospitals had participated in aerial rescue drills. The survey subjects were mainly from emergency departments and intensive care medicine departments, women, aged>30 and ≤40 years old, undergraduate students, intermediate professional titles, and doctors. Twenty-one medical workers had received formal training in aeromedical rescue skills, 77 had received short-term theoretical and practical training, 123 had participated in short-term simulation exercises, and 93 had participated in aeromedical rescue activities. There was a statistically significant difference among the scores of first aid knowledge, aviation flight knowledge, and aeromedical rescue knowledge (9.34±0.35 vs. 4.65±2.91 vs. 3.28±3.44; F=15.048, P=0.001). There were statistically significant differences between first aid knowledge and aviation flight knowledge, as well as between first aid knowledge and aeromedical rescue knowledge (P<0.05). There was no statistically significant difference between aviation flight knowledge and aeromedical medical rescue knowledge (P>0.05). Conclusion There is an urgent demand for aviation rescue in medical institutions in Qinling-Daba mountainous area, and there is a shortage of professionals, so it is necessary to strengthen the training, rehearsal and practice of aeromedical rescue.

  • Ethics considerations on brain-computer interface technology

The development and potential application of brain-computer interface (BCI) technology is closely related to the human brain, so that the ethical regulation of BCI has become an important issue attracting the consideration of society. Existing literatures have discussed the ethical norms of BCI technology from the perspectives of non-BCI developers and scientific ethics, while few discussions have been launched from the perspective of BCI developers. Therefore, there is a great need to study and discuss the ethical norms of BCI technology from the perspective of BCI developers. In this paper, we present the user-centered and non-harmful BCI technology ethics, and then discuss and look forward on them. This paper argues that human beings can cope with the ethical issues arising from BCI technology, and as BCI technology develops, its ethical norms will be improved continuously. It is expected that this paper can provide thoughts and references for the formulation of ethical norms related to BCI technology.

  • Ethical considerations for medical applications of implantable brain-computer interfaces

Implantable brain-computer interfaces (BCIs) have potentially important clinical applications due to the high spatial resolution and signal-to-noise ratio of electrodes that are closer to or implanted in the cerebral cortex. However, the surgery and electrodes of implantable BCIs carry safety risks of brain tissue damage, and their medical applications face ethical challenges, with little literature to date systematically considering ethical norms for the medical applications of implantable BCIs. In order to promote the clinical translation of this type of BCI, we considered the ethics of practice for the medical application of implantable BCIs, including: reducing the risk of brain tissue damage from implantable BCI surgery and electrodes, providing patients with customized and personalized implantable BCI treatments, ensuring multidisciplinary collaboration in the clinical application of implantable BCIs, and the responsible use of implantable BCIs, among others. It is expected that this article will provide thoughts and references for the research and development of ethics of the medical application of implantable BCI.
