  • Analysis on Pain Follow-Up after Discharged in Patients with Liver Resection

ObjectiveTo follow-up pain after discharged in patients with liver resection and provide a reference to carry out the continued pain treatment outside the hospital. MethodsPost-discharged pain follow-up in patients with liver resection in our department from December 1, 2014 to April 30, 2015 were conducted, and the pain incidence, characteristics and level on 14 days, 1 month, 2 months, and 3 months after operation were understanded. Results①The pain score of patients on 14 days after operation was 0-3 points, which was mild pain. In 2 months after operation, 24 patients still had pain, the incidence was 20.69% (24/116). In 3 months after operation, the pain incidence was 18.97% (22/116).②There was no significant difference in the pain incidence between men and women in 2 months after operation (P > 0.05). In 3 months after operation, the pain incidence of male and female patients was 13.04% (9/69) and 27.66% (13/47), respectively, the pain incidence of female was significantly higher than men (P < 0.05).③The postoperative pain score and incidence in patients more than 60 years old were lower than that in patients less than 60 years old, but the score and the incidence of postoperative pain in patients with different ages were not statistically significant (P > 0.05).④In chronic pain patients, 81.82% (18/22) were visceral pain, 18.182% (4/22) were skin tingling or numbness. ConclusionWe should focus on the continued pain treatment outside the hospital in patients with hepatic resection, make efforts to alleviate pain, and improve the postoperative quality of life.

  • NovaMin-containing Bioactive Toothpaste for Dentine Hypersensitivity: A Meta-Analysis

ObjectiveTo review the effects of desensitizing toothpaste containing NovaMin for dentine hypersensitivity. MethodsSuch databases as CNKI, WanFang Data, CBM, VIP, PubMed, Web of Science and The Cochrane Library (Issue 11, 2013) were searched, and meanwhile Google Scholar was used for supplementary search up to December 2013. Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) on treating dentine hypersensitivity with NovaMin-containing toothpaste were retrieved. Literature screening, data extraction and quality assessment were completed independently by two reviewers. Meta-analysis was then performed using RevMan 5.2 software. ResultsSix RCTs involving 283 patients (experiment:140 patients; control:143 patients) were included. The results of meta-analysis showed that at 4 weeks, NovaMin-containing toothpaste was significantly better than potassium-containing toothpaste in alleviating patients' cold sensitivity (SMD=-1.60, 95%CI-2.14 to-1.05, P=0.01) and air blast (SMD=-1.12, 95%-1.64 to-0.60, P=0.02). ConclusionCurrent evidence shows that, NovaMin-containing toothpaste is effective in treating dentine hypersensitivity, compared with other toothpaste that has been proved to be effective in clinic. However, due to the limited quantity and quality of the included studies, more high quality and large-sample RCTs are needed to further verify the above conclusion.

  • Single Aortic Cusp Replacement with Bovine Pericardium for Children with Ventricular Septal Defect and Aortic Regurgitation

ObjectiveTo assess clinical results of single aortic cusp replacement with bovine pericardium for children with ventricular septal defect (VSD) and severe aortic regurgitation (AR). MethodsClinical data of 42 children with VSD and severe AR who underwent single aortic cusp replacement with bovine pericardium in Wuhan Asia Heart Hospital from March 2006 to September 2009 were retrospectively analyzed. There were 28 male and 14 female patients with their age of 2-14 (9.0±3.6) years. All the patients were in NYHA class Ⅱ. ResultsNo early mortality or major morbidity was recorded. Intraoperative transesophageal echocardiography showed successful repair with normal coaptation of the aortic leaflets in all the patients. AR grade was less than mild in all the patients with peak aortic valve pressure gradients of 14.2±2.8 mm Hg. All the patients were discharged from the hospital within 11 postoperative days without any adverse symptom, and were followed up for 32-72 (50±16) months. During follow-up,all the patients were in NYHA class I. There were 17 patients without AR,21 patients with mild AR and 4 patients with moderate AR. The peak aortic valve pressure gradient was 12.4±3.2 mm Hg. None of the patients died or required reoperation, and structural valve degeneration was not observed during follow-up. ConclusionSingle aortic cusp replacement with bovine pericardium can produce good hemodynamics and midterm results for children with VSD and severe AR.
