  • An electroencephalogram-based study of resting-state spectrogram and attention in tinnitus patients

The incidence of tinnitus is very high, which can affect the patient’s attention, emotion and sleep, and even cause serious psychological distress and suicidal tendency. Currently, there is no uniform and objective method for tinnitus detection and therapy, and the mechanism of tinnitus is still unclear. In this study, we first collected the resting state electroencephalogram (EEG) data of tinnitus patients and healthy subjects. Then the power spectrum topology diagrams were compared of in the band of δ (0.5–3 Hz), θ (4–7 Hz), α (8–13 Hz), β (14–30 Hz) and γ (31–50 Hz) to explore the central mechanism of tinnitus. A total of 16 tinnitus patients and 16 healthy subjects were recruited to participate in the experiment. The results of resting state EEG experiments found that the spectrum power value of tinnitus patients was higher than that of healthy subjects in all concerned frequency bands. The t-test results showed that the significant difference areas were mainly concentrated in the right temporal lobe of the θ and α band, and the temporal lobe, parietal lobe and forehead area of the β and γ band. In addition, we designed an attention-related task experiment to further study the relationship between tinnitus and attention. The results showed that the classification accuracy of tinnitus patients was significantly lower than that of healthy subjects, and the highest classification accuracies were 80.21% and 88.75%, respectively. The experimental results indicate that tinnitus may cause the decrease of patients’ attention.

  • Optic cup and disc segmentation model based on linear attention and dual attention

Glaucoma is one of blind causing diseases. The cup-to-disc ratio is the main basis for glaucoma screening. Therefore, it is of great significance to precisely segment the optic cup and disc. In this article, an optic cup and disc segmentation model based on the linear attention and dual attention is proposed. Firstly, the region of interest is located and cropped according to the characteristics of the optic disc. Secondly, linear attention residual network-34 (ResNet-34) is introduced as a feature extraction network. Finally, channel and spatial dual attention weights are generated by the linear attention output features, which are used to calibrate feature map in the decoder to obtain the optic cup and disc segmentation image. Experimental results show that the intersection over union of the optic disc and cup in Retinal Image Dataset for Optic Nerve Head Segmentation (DRISHTI-GS) dataset are 0.962 3 and 0.856 4, respectively, and the intersection over union of the optic disc and cup in retinal image database for optic nerve evaluation (RIM-ONE-V3) are 0.956 3 and 0.784 4, respectively. The proposed model is better than the comparison algorithm and has certain medical value in the early screening of glaucoma. In addition, this article uses knowledge distillation technology to generate two smaller models, which is beneficial to apply the models to embedded device.

  • Multi-classification prediction model of lung cancer tumor mutation burden based on residual network

Medical studies have found that tumor mutation burden (TMB) is positively correlated with the efficacy of immunotherapy for non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), and TMB value can be used to predict the efficacy of targeted therapy and chemotherapy. However, the calculation of TMB value mainly depends on the whole exon sequencing (WES) technology, which usually costs too much time and expenses. To deal with above problem, this paper studies the correlation between TMB and slice images by taking advantage of digital pathological slices commonly used in clinic and then predicts the patient TMB level accordingly. This paper proposes a deep learning model (RCA-MSAG) based on residual coordinate attention (RCA) structure and combined with multi-scale attention guidance (MSAG) module. The model takes ResNet-50 as the basic model and integrates coordinate attention (CA) into bottleneck module to capture the direction-aware and position-sensitive information, which makes the model able to locate and identify the interesting positions more accurately. And then, MSAG module is embedded into the network, which makes the model able to extract the deep features of lung cancer pathological sections and the interactive information between channels. The cancer genome map (TCGA) open dataset is adopted in the experiment, which consists of 200 pathological sections of lung adenocarcinoma, including 80 data samples with high TMB value, 77 data samples with medium TMB value and 43 data samples with low TMB value. Experimental results demonstrate that the accuracy, precision, recall and F1 score of the proposed model are 96.2%, 96.4%, 96.2% and 96.3%, respectively, which are superior to the existing mainstream deep learning models. The model proposed in this paper can promote clinical auxiliary diagnosis and has certain theoretical guiding significance for TMB prediction.

  • Research on multi-scale convolutional neural network hand muscle strength prediction model improved based on convolutional attention module

In order to realize the quantitative assessment of muscle strength in hand function rehabilitation and then formulate scientific and effective rehabilitation training strategies, this paper constructs a multi-scale convolutional neural network (MSCNN) - convolutional block attention module (CBAM) - bidirectional long short-term memory network (BiLSTM) muscle strength prediction model to fully explore the spatial and temporal features of the data and simultaneously suppress useless features, and finally achieve the improvement of the accuracy of the muscle strength prediction model. To verify the effectiveness of the model proposed in this paper, the model in this paper is compared with traditional models such as support vector machine (SVM), random forest (RF), convolutional neural network (CNN), CNN - squeeze excitation network (SENet), MSCNN-CBAM and MSCNN-BiLSTM, and the effect of muscle strength prediction by each model is investigated when the hand force application changes from 40% of the maximum voluntary contraction force (MVC) to 60% of the MVC. The research results show that as the hand force application increases, the effect of the muscle strength prediction model becomes worse. Then the ablation experiment is used to analyze the influence degree of each module on the muscle strength prediction result, and it is found that the CBAM module plays a key role in the model. Therefore, by using the model in this article, the accuracy of muscle strength prediction can be effectively improved, and the characteristics and laws of hand muscle activities can be deeply understood, providing assistance for further exploring the mechanism of hand functions.

  • Research on three-dimensional skull repair by combining residual and informer attention

Cranial defects may result from clinical brain tumor surgery or accidental trauma. The defect skulls require hand-designed skull implants to repair. The edge of the skull implant needs to be accurately matched to the boundary of the skull wound with various defects. For the manual design of cranial implants, it is time-consuming and technically demanding, and the accuracy is low. Therefore, an informer residual attention U-Net (IRA-Unet) for the automatic design of three-dimensional (3D) skull implants was proposed in this paper. Informer was applied from the field of natural language processing to the field of computer vision for attention extraction. Informer attention can extract attention and make the model focus more on the location of the skull defect. Informer attention can also reduce the computation and parameter count from N2 to log(N). Furthermore, the informer residual attention is constructed. The informer attention and the residual are combined and placed in the position of the model close to the output layer. Thus, the model can select and synthesize the global receptive field and local information to improve the model accuracy and speed up the model convergence. In this paper, the open data set of the AutoImplant 2020 was used for training and testing, and the effects of direct and indirect acquisition of skull implants on the results were compared and analyzed in the experimental part. The experimental results show that the performance of the model is robust on the test set of 110 cases fromAutoImplant 2020. The Dice coefficient and Hausdorff distance are 0.940 4 and 3.686 6, respectively. The proposed model reduces the resources required to run the model while maintaining the accuracy of the cranial implant shape, and effectively assists the surgeon in automating the design of efficient cranial repair, thereby improving the quality of the patient’s postoperative recovery.

  • Classification of Children with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder and Typically Developing Children Based on Electroencephalogram Principal Component Analysis and k-Nearest Neighbor

This paper aims to assist the individual clinical diagnosis of children with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder using electroencephalogram signal detection method. Firstly, in our experiments, we obtained and studied the electroencephalogram signals from fourteen attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder children and sixteen typically developing children during the classic interference control task of Simon-spatial Stroop, and we completed electroencephalogram data preprocessing including filtering, segmentation, removal of artifacts and so on. Secondly, we selected the subset electroencephalogram electrodes using principal component analysis (PCA) method, and we collected the common channels of the optimal electrodes which occurrence rates were more than 90% in each kind of stimulation. We then extracted the latency (200~450 ms) mean amplitude features of the common electrodes. Finally, we used the k-nearest neighbor (KNN) classifier based on Euclidean distance and the support vector machine (SVM) classifier based on radial basis kernel function to classify. From the experiment, at the same kind of interference control task, the attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder children showed lower correct response rates and longer reaction time. The N2 emerged in prefrontal cortex while P2 presented in the inferior parietal area when all kinds of stimuli demonstrated. Meanwhile, the children with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder exhibited markedly reduced N2 and P2 amplitude compared to typically developing children. KNN resulted in better classification accuracy than SVM classifier, and the best classification rate was 89.29% in StI task. The results showed that the electroencephalogram signals were different in the brain regions of prefrontal cortex and inferior parietal cortex between attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder and typically developing children during the interference control task, which provided a scientific basis for the clinical diagnosis of attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder individuals.

To assist grassroots sonographers in accurately and rapidly detecting intussusception lesions from children's abdominal ultrasound images, this paper proposes an improved YOLOv8n children's intussusception detection algorithm, called EMC-YOLOv8n. Firstly, the EfficientViT network with a cascaded group attention module was used as the backbone network to enhance the speed of target detection. Secondly, the improved C2fMBC module was used to replace the C2f module in the neck network to reduce network complexity, and the coordinate attention (CA) module was introduced after each C2fMBC module to enhance attention to positional information. Finally, experiments were conducted on the self-built dataset of intussusception in children. The results showed that the recall rate, average detection accuracy (mAP@0.5) and precision of the EMC-YOLOv8n algorithm improved by 3.9%, 2.1% and 0.9%, respectively, compared to the baseline algorithm. Despite slightly increased network parameters and computational load, significant improvements in detection accuracy enable efficient completion of detection tasks, demonstrating substantial economic and social value.

  • Segmentation of anterior cruciate ligament images by fusing inflated convolution and residual hybrid attention

Aiming at the problems of low accuracy and large difference of segmentation boundary distance in anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) image segmentation of knee joint, this paper proposes an ACL image segmentation model by fusing dilated convolution and residual hybrid attention U-shaped network (DRH-UNet). The proposed model builds upon the U-shaped network (U-Net) by incorporating dilated convolutions to expand the receptive field, enabling a better understanding of the contextual relationships within the image. Additionally, a residual hybrid attention block is designed in the skip connections to enhance the expression of critical features in key regions and reduce the semantic gap, thereby improving the representation capability for the ACL area. This study constructs an enhanced annotated ACL dataset based on the publicly available Magnetic Resonance Imaging Network (MRNet) dataset. The proposed method is validated on this dataset, and the experimental results demonstrate that the DRH-UNet model achieves a Dice similarity coefficient (DSC) of (88.01±1.57)% and a Hausdorff distance (HD) of 5.16±0.85, outperforming other ACL segmentation methods. The proposed approach further enhances the segmentation accuracy of ACL, providing valuable assistance for subsequent clinical diagnosis by physicians.

  • Comparative research on brain networks of children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and normal children based on visual cognitive tasks

Aiming at the difference between the brain networks of children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and normal children in the task-executing state, this paper conducted a comparative study using the network features of the visual function area. Functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) data of 23 children with ADHD [age: (8.27 ± 2.77) years] and 23 normal children [age: (8.70 ± 2.58) years] were obtained by the visual capture paradigm when the subjects were performing the guessing task. First, fMRI data were used to build a visual area brain function network. Then, the visual area brain function network characteristic indicators including degree distribution, average shortest path, network density, aggregation coefficient, intermediary, etc. were obtained and compared with the traditional whole brain network. Finally, support vector machines (SVM) and other classifiers in the machine learning algorithm were used to classify the feature indicators to distinguish ADHD children from normal children. In this study, visual brain function network features were used for classification, with a classification accuracy of up to 96%. Compared with the traditional method of constructing a whole brain network, the accuracy was improved by about 10%. The test results show that the use of visual area brain function network analysis can better distinguish ADHD children from normal children. This method has certain help to distinguish the brain network between ADHD children and normal children, and is helpful for the auxiliary diagnosis of ADHD children.
