Objective A systematic review was conducted based on the domestically published literature for improving the quality of oral nursing care. Methods The terms "oral nursing care", "oral hygiene care", "mouth care" were used to search related studies in Chinese databases (up to April 30, 2004) along with handsearching additional studies. Four authors screened and selected the studies, appraised the methodological quality and extracted data from these selected studies. The results were presented by description or Meta-analysis. Results A total of 28 studies were identified, of which 6 were excluded. The methodological quality varied among the studies, 7 scored as B, 15 as C (11 randomized controlled trials, 4 quasi-randomized trials). A total of 2 372 patients were observed including some were critically ill, or intubated, or receiving radiotherapy or chemotherapy or undergoing surgical operations.Six authors of RCT replied and four of them provided more information on methods of randomization. Data analysis revealed that traditional oral nursing procedure was suitable for the severely sick patients who could not take self-care. Brushing and gargling were suitable for conscious patients who could use their hands. Tea and toothpaste were safe, economical and convenient oral nursing agents. Oral pH was a useful index for the selection of oral nursing agents and mouthwashes. A gargle containing sodium bicarbonate was used in the acidic oral environment and reduced fungal infection. The mouthwash with tea polyphenols had good effect for oral health, and might be as the first choice for prophylaxis of stomatitis induced by radiotherapy and/or chemotherapy. Some mouthwashes developed by Chinese herbs improved oral health efficiently. Some disinfectants with good safety and low toxicity might be used as supplementary agents in oral nursing care. Conclusions Oral nursing care procedures have improved the efficiency of oral care. But the conclusion should be verified by more, well designed randomized controlled trials involving a collaborative multidiscipliary health care professionals. Oral nursing care practice needs to be evidence based.

ObjectiveTo explore the effect of humanistic ideas applied for high quality nursing service in grass-root hospitals. MethodsIn the process of high quality nursing service between January 2011 and December 2013, humanistic philosophy was adopted. We provided humanistic nursing care for the patients, and humanistic management and care for doctors and nurses. Then, we used self-made questionnaire to do survey on the satisfaction degree in 1 200 patients, 500 nurses and 100 doctors in a third-grade class-A hospital. ResultsThrough the application of humanistic management idea, the satisfaction degree of all patients, nurses and doctors was significantly raised. ConclusionHumanistic concept applied in high quality nursing service inspires the enthusiasm and activity of nurses, promotes their nursing mode, and raise the nursing quality, which satisfies all the patients nurses and doctors.
ObjectiveTo analyze the impact of high-quality nursing care on adult patients with asthma and asthma control. MethodsWe randomly chose 100 patients with asthma from June 2012 to July 2013, and the patients were randomly divided into experimental group (n=50) and control group (n=50). Patients in both the two groups received treatments based on the characteristics of the patients' condition. The control group received conventional care, while the experimental group received high-quality nursing care aimed to help them establish the concept of Asthma Prevention on the basis of the conventional care. Then, we analyzed the effect of nursing intervention in both groups. ResultsBefore the treatment, the forced expiratory volume in 1 second (%) and peak expiratory flow were not significantly different between the two groups (P>0.05). After treatment, both groups had improvement in their lung function. However, improvement in lung function of the experimental group was significantly better than the control group (P<0.05). The disease remission level in the experiment group and the control group was respectively 86.0% (43/50) and 64.0% (32/50) (χ2=6.453, P=0.011). According to the Asthma Control Questionnare (5-item version), in the experimental group, 46 patients completed the assessment and the total control of asthma accounted for 34.8% (16/46), well-controlled asthma accounted for 50.0% (23/46), and uncontrolled asthma accounted for 15.2% (7/46); while in the control group, 48 patients completed the assessment and the total control of asthma accounted for 18.8% (9/48), well-controlled asthma accounted for 43.8% (21/48), and uncontrolled asthma accounted for 37.5% (18/48) (Z=-2.533, P=0.011). The average hospital stay for the experimental group and the control group was respectively 11.24 days and 12.16 days. ConclusionHigh-quality nursing care can improve the quality of life of adult asthma patients, improve the patients' lung function, and enhance the control of asthma.
ObjectiveTo explore the effect of humanistic nursing care on patients in the Emergency Department. MethodsBetween May and August 2013, 166 acute patients were randomly divided into trial group and the control group (83 patients in each group). The patients in the control group received routine nursing care, while the patients in the trial group were given routine and humanistic nursing care. The patient's satisfaction of nursing skill and work attitude, grasp of disease related knowledge, compliance, and disease control effec were compared between the two groups. ResultsThe patient's satisfaction, grasp of disease related knowledge, compliance, disease control effect in the experiment group were superior to the control group (P<0.05). ConclusionThe implementation of humanistic nursing care on patients in Emergency Department is effective, and it's worthy of clinical promotion.
ObjectiveTo investigate the efficacy of follow-up continuous nursing intervention on the self-management ability and medication compliance of patients undergoing maintenance hemodialysis. MethodsBetween June and December 2013, 157 maintenance hemodialysis patients were randomly divided into control group (n=76) and study group (n=81). The control group was given conventional nursing, while the study group received continuous nursing intervention program as well as conventional nursing. Six months later, the self-management ability and medication compliance of the patients were assessed by using self-made Patient Self-management Scale and Morisky Medication Compliance Scale. ResultsSix months later, self-management ability in patients of the study group was significantly better than that in the control group (P<0.05). Medication compliance rate in the study group reached a highest of 45.7%, while it was only 18.4% in the control group, and the difference between the two groups was significant (χ2=13.283, P<0.001). ConclusionFollow-up continuous nursing intervention can obviously improve maintenance hemodialysis patients' ability of self management and compliance behavior, so as to improve the quality of life of these patients.
Objective To explore the nursing quality standards of joint surgery based on “structure-process-outcome” three-dimensional quality evaluation model, and provide a reference for improving the quality of joint surgery nursing. Methods From March to July 2023, based on the “structure-process-outcome” three-dimensional quality structure model as the theoretical framework, combined with systematic literature review and semi-structured interviews, the quality standards of joint surgery specialist nursing were preliminarily formulated. The Delphi method was used for screening, demonstration, and correction, then the analytic hierarchy process was used to determine the weights. Results The recovery rates of the two rounds of expert letter consultation were 93.75% and 100.00%, respectively. The expert authority coefficients of both rounds were 0.95. The positive coefficients of experts in the two rounds were 0.93 and 1.00, respectively. The coefficients of variation after the second round of correspondence were 0-0.20. In the second round of correspondence inquiry, the Kendall harmony coefficients of primary standards, secondary standards and tertiary standards were 0.156, 0.115 and 0.285, respectively, with statistical significance (P<0.05). Finally, the quality standards of joint specialty nursing included 3 primary standards, 23 secondary standards and 99 tertiary standards. Conclusion The construction process of nursing quality standards of joint surgery specialty based on “structure-process-outcome” three-dimensional quality structure model is scientific and reliable, the index evaluation results are less volatile, and the opinions are concentrated, which can provide a basis for comprehensively, accurately and pertinently improving the quality of joint surgery specialty nursing.
